Police use Taser on blind man after stick mistaken for sword

Wed Oct 17, 2012 11:48 am

A police force has apologised after an officer used a Taser on a blind man whose white stick was mistaken for a sword.

The man was stunned by police following reports of a man walking through Chorley with a samurai sword on Friday.

Ch Supt Stuart Williams, of Lancashire Police, said the force "deeply regrets" and had "clearly put this man through a traumatic experience".

The man was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

What a jioke our police force are becoming. :( :o

How unfortunate.

There are a lot of absolute pricks in the police force. Harsh to say they are becoming a joke though.

There are a lot of great hard working individuals out there. Not all "pigs".

Sounds like the police themselves were f*cking blind... how can a stick be mistaken for a sword, seriously? Something not right about this :old:

"Something not right about this". What the hell, some kind of conspiracy against the blind?

Nearly got into an altercation with a blind man back in the summer.

Down Saundersfoot, some old geezer just barged through my 3 year old, gave her a right bump, and just carried on walking.

I went and walked after him was just about to grab him and ask him to apologise and noticed his white stick

Give it 2 months and you'll notice a distinct lack of guide dogs, sunglasses and white sticks   What I mean is, maybe the police were just getting arsey. Football fans of all people know what they can be like.
