CARDIFF CITY V CHELSEA 1984 MY SCARIEST GAME WERE YOU THERE?

Postby dazzyt » Wed Sep 26, 2012 12:55 pm

One of the scariest days in my life,I was 14 and after city leading 3 - 0 Chelsea only went and scored 3 times in the last 5 mins if I remember correctly. At the final whistle we couldn't get out of the bob bank and all I could see at the gates which were locked was bottles, sticks and stone flying through the air and hundreds going toe to toe,we heard Chelsea were trying to get in the gates and had run the pitch and were heading to the bob bank exit,I was on the brink of being crushed and decided to climb the wall which lead to the cul de sac of houses my mate was carrying a few pounds and didn't make it.walking through the houses I thought I was safe until what seemed like hundreds of chelsea piling into the street,as I tried to forget about the shit in my pants I dived over the wall of one of the houses and banged on the door, this old guy answered and said I had better come in.I stood there shaking, final score was on and the guy asked if I wanted a cup of tea?,I asked for water which his mrs brought out in a shuffling manner, the street was filling up with chelsea and then came the onslought, the guy started telling me I was a f*cking disgrace to society and my breed should be locked up,he continued to pummel me for about 5 mins as I stood watching final score trying to block him out,he kept shouting and started to get louder and more aggressive even though he was in his 70's,then I snapped and said f**k it,I said thank you and decided I would rather be out there than taking this shit so I bombed outside, luckily a few Cardiff had stormed in and were having it with Chelsea,I ran out of the cul de sac and a guy about 16 was being ragged by a police dog,he was being dragged by his leg so I decided to grab the lad by the armpits and try to drag him from the dog which I managed after what seemed ages but was probably only a few seconds.I never got his name but we headed off to find some medical care for his bites, I am sure there were bottles being thrown from a departing train full of Chelsea.I wonder if that guy is on this forum.
I'm not sure how many Chelsea brought that day but it seemed like 5000.
were you there and what do you remember about it?

All I remember about that game was that tw*t Joey Jones giving it large to the Cardiff fans at the end of the game. Sure Mickey Thomas played for Chelsea that day and that film star Kerry Dixon, in fact I'm sure Dixon scored one of their goals.
Really not sure about 5,000 Chelsea fans because the gate was only 11,000.

The rest sounds pretty much like an average match day on Sloper Road back then. Not a place for the faint hearted.

If you were originally in the grandstand, and being escorted out, not only had u just taken a kicking but were spat at by the the whole family enclosure and canton stand while walking round the pitch. And we were at home pmsl.  :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

you were only 14,so I guess it was pretty scarey at the time...we chased them 3 times after the game when it was roughly equal numbers,a different story a few minutes later...the whole of their following was out, huge mob,we were well outnumbered, take my hat off to them, gave it our best shot, but they had way too many, legged us all the way to the station, despite occasional 'stands' ...the best ever to come to Cardiff...

had a great laugh that day, chelsea would always come here mob handed because they were guaranteed a warm welcome, and this day turned into carnage.we were scrapping from 1030 til 600 and whilst victories were had by both sides, the huge numbers they brought meant we resorted to guerilla tactics and they were glad to get out of dodge city and back on the trains, there werent many chelsea hanging about town that night lol.i was talking to a chelsea lad last week and he said that he hasnt been as scared as he was that day especially to and from the station.

Didnt cardiff drop a big wooden railway sleeper of a bridge on to a chelsea coach?
I heard this off an old chelsea guy i spoke to a few years back.

Yep. Amongst other things I seem to remember a Chelsea fan pulled a stanley blade on me.

Yes that was a manic day and one that sticks in the memory. Remember the Chelsea fans rampaging through the ground to get into the Bob bank and running battles on the way back to the Railway station. Recall turning around on the way back to the station and being greeted by a huge crowd of Chelsea yobs led by a little Gobby ginger lad who I believe had a mention in one of their books .

to-and-fro before the game. we got legged a few times, but caught up with
a good few Chelsea and made them feel very unwelcome too :D

After the game the first Chelsea coming out werent expecting us to steam straight in.

Proper caught them on the hop

But not for long

Just too many of them.

It was like Zulu, without Men of Harlech, or wagons to hide behind

A crazy day indeed, I was in the grandstand that day and Chelsea were everywhere the only place they weren't was probably the bob bank. We got escorted out through the players tunnel and a copper said to me get in the encloseure but they were in there waiting to set about anyone who got put in there, ended up getting taken around the pitch only to be spat at and have coins thrown at us as we were escorted into the bob bank. Fair play they were well up for it that day.

I was in the "family enclosure" - the terrace in front of the grandstand - and there were even Chelsea in there having a go at people.

I was 14 and there with a mate and his dad. There were Chelsea fans everywhere apart from the Bob Bank and it was the craziest away following I've seen (even including our own at Stoke many years ago!).

With 5 minutes to go and City 3-0 up, my mate's dad said we'd better go because of all the aggro. You know the rest!

We heard two roars while walking out and along Sloper Road, then heard the equaliser on the car radio.

I've never left a game early since!

Don't blame my mate's dad for making us leave though, it was a crazy day.
