Defending at corners

Sat Sep 22, 2012 9:48 pm

Every corner or set piece near our goal we face we have every player back in our box.

This means that if we clear the ball we have no outlet to aim for, the ball comes straight back putting us under pressure again immediately, and leads to situations like today where our centre forward is making reckless tackles in our own penalty area.

It's not difficult Malky.

Try leaving someone upfield at set pieces!

I totally agree with you.

However we rarely seem to concede from corner????

Can work both ways. Teams will generally leave two defenders back near half way anyway striker or no striker. So defend get men on posts and win headers and get out. I can see arguments either way.

It should be a quick player for obvious reasons, so the clear choice is Bellamy.

I agree.

Putting one striker on half way takes back at least two defenders.

But when the box is so crowded at corners it's so hard to score. I'd like to see us leave one up but brining everyone back has worked clearly.

but think point is if there is an attacker near those two defenders the ball wont come back to our area, more likely go back to their goalie, it has been mentioned thew times on here we dont need 11 men in our area its that simple, :D

Then why aren't you the manager?
