I'd have to agree on the fact that they have to much. My boy is 4 already had a ipad, ds, quad, motorbike, and many more things but in regards to making them go soft I have to disagree on that. My boy is in no way soft but that's how i've brought him up, He also has his own punch bag in his room and I make sure he has a go at it all the time.

Society has just changed, as I mentioned in another post police presence stops kids going over the park getting drunk plus most teenagers these days just smoke weed and get high.

Yes.

Back in my day we paid for everything ourselves from the age of 10 onwards. Only on Christmas and birthdays would we receive only a FEW gifts not sacks and sacks of stuff. The younger generations care to much for what they own in terms of possessions now what they have in their lives in terms of friends and family, humility and respect has gone out of the window in my eyes among the younger generations and you can see that in certain young posters on here.

Yes, definitely. Whilst its nice to have a phone and communicate I would still rather knock at a persons house and go out. Haven't got a console and only 2 games I play now are FIFA and Saints Row and that is getting rarer now with university work etc.

Still prefer going down the City to all that though. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Ignore list?

Respect is a two way street and I respect almost every poster on here and I am pretty sure I am the oldest poster on this site unless anyone wants to declare otherwise. Respect to those who respect me, do not lie and hate the Rebrand and the Barbaric Malaysian occupation of my club of 64 years.

Materialism is the order of the day, it is a sad state of affairs that children at a young age feel the need to have the newest clothes, the most expensive phone and the most friends/followers on social networking sites that I will never get my head round as much as I try.

I don't think they have to much, It's just times have changed, The next generation will have more again.

On another note, I was just down the park and heard a handful of 6 year old girls calling each other "f*cking Mongs" and "Piss off". Felt like pushing them off the swings.

Fair enough. I hope you take this as genuine but I wish society acted in the way it was whilst I was a youngster. As I have become older its got worse IMO. More red tape, more commercialism, etc. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I agree in the sense that they have too much, but with more stuff I believe creates new problems. So I don't believe you can say it makes them softer. People just adapt to the times and learn to deal with the problems they have to deal with. Although I believe we can learn a lot from the older generations as I feel a lot of good qualities that they had appear to be lost.

It is not the parents fault at all Jules, in this world of materialism it would be cruel to deny your sons the latest cool thing to have because quite frankly and sadly they will be bullied at school for it.

You, like me see that an 8 year old owning a tablet phone is f*cking ridiculous but as a parent I feel you just have to let it happen as it's not our generation any more, just make sure he appreciates it.

Absolutely, there was none of this when i was growing up. I was lucky to get a Sega Mega Drive and it hasn't done me any harm growing up without all these things. I spent most of my youth playing football and Rugby, knock knock ginger in the evenings  , you knew it was a good day when you were out for hours and always came home with scrapped knees or some form of bruising. Every Summer me and my mates would go off and make little hideouts etc, but the way things are going i suppose they have a phone app for that now don't they??
