This is a personal tribute and was written mostly for the benefit of the old friends who have been in touch since the sad news of Simon's death last week, but I hope it will give City fans who didn't know him a flavour of the man ahead of tomorrow's tribute at the CCS.

An excellent tribute to a gentle giant, like many city fans, i had numerous conversations with simon especially at away games, he would go out of his way to help you if he could, he will be a massive miss to Cardiff City and of course, to his family. RIP simon.

A fantastic article and a great tribute to Simon. He was a true man in every sense of the word and I would often have banter with him at the city. RIP

Excellent article Dave and a tribute to a very good man who did more for our fans than most will ever realise. I will miss Simon and will probably shed a tear at the on pitch memorial tomorrow. Simon Insole left a legacy and if I had to describe his work in a short sentence I would say "he made a difference"
Thanks Simon for all your hard work , your sense of humour and fair mindedness. you were unique and a best practice model for football police work...a sad loss to everyone who was lucky enough to have known you.
Rest in peace big man.

I echo the comments of the previous "posters"
He will be missed by many and I hope we, as fans, recognise that at the game tomorrow
RIP Si

As has been said already, although I didn't know him personally would always exchange a nod of hello, and always thought of him as a bloke not just another copper.

Reminds me of a night in Belfast after a Wales game whers I was drinking in the bar of the Europa with my mate Boney, when Simon who was staying in thje same hotel walked in at the end of his shift and proceed to drink us both under the table.
Sinon took the mick for weeks untill we realised we had been drinking for 12 hrs while Si had been on duty LOL
RIP Simon one of the best
