Malaysian Simon Lim appointed financial director at Cardiff

Thu Sep 13, 2012 3:11 pm

Malaysian Simon Lim has been appointed new financial director at Cardiff City.

He takes over the role from Doug Lee and will be based at Cardiff City Stadium.

An official statement by the football club confirmed that Lim has 'strong connections' with Vincent Tan's Berjaya Corporation.

Tan is the major investor in Cardiff City, having put more than £40m into the Championship club with the promise of more.

Lee, who will work on until the end of this month, and City chief executive Alan Whiteley will work with Lim, who has been financial controller within the Berjaya Corporation, during a transition period.

An official statement by Cardiff City said: "We would like to place on record full thanks and appreciation to outgoing finance director Doug Lee, who is stepping down from his role at the club at the end of September.

"Having achieved the objective of Doug's original appointment of delivering financial stability, along with developing proper financial disciplines at the club, he is leaving to explore new opportunities and does so with our gratitude and respect.

"Filling Doug's position will be Simon Lim, who will be based at Cardiff City Stadium and with his strong Berjaya connections he will help cement the club's relationships in Asia, while continuing Doug's work of enhancing our strengths both locally and in the rest of the UK.

"All at the club wish Doug every future success and welcome Simon to Cardiff City at the start of his tenure as finance director."

Whiteley and Lee have been City's executive directors, responsible for the day-to-day decisions at the club.

Dato Chan Tien Ghee is Cardiff City chairman, while the Uk based non-executive directors are Steve Borley, Michael Isaac, Paul Guy, Mike Hall and Mehmet Dalman.

The non-executive directors based outside the UK are Derek Chin, Len Kong, Meng Lim and Danni Rais.

It says that Doug Lee has achieved financial stability for the club  Seems an odd thing to say seeing as we now owe £40m more than when he came in

Yes well Tony perhaps their meaning of financial stability is a bit different to ours.

To me it is living by your means. To them I get the impression its get someone owing you loads of money, charge them an interest that they struggle with but can afford, allow a bit of time for the interest payments to payback the initial bit owed and what are you left......your money back but still owing you for the rest of your life.

Your right Tony it's a bit like brother Cameron telling us that NEW evidence had come to light relating to the Hillsbrough disaster when in fact the evidence was always there just covered up.

In both cases a think the term SPIN applies.

Hi Ian, I know nothing at all. The one word that I've put in the sentence though is "IF"
What I do know is the owners of our club are good at making money. I suspect the chop is a business decision based on making money in the future.
Nothing more than that really Ian. :dontknow:
