Cardiff City fans have come out in support of their hero Craig Bellamy after he revealed he is currently going through the “worst time in his life”.

Bellamy revealed this weekend that his marriage has suffered since the death of his team-mate and friend Gary Speed last year.

The former Liverpool FC and Manchester City striker, 33, last week denied claims that he was planning to quit football before telling the Sunday Mirror he has moved out of the marital home he shared with wife Claire and their three children.

He said: “Losing my best mate has affected everything. I can’t believe how hard it is.

“He was the best mate I’ve ever had. It’s sad but unfortunately it got to my marriage. I’m here and she’s there.

“I don’t know if that’s it for us. All I know is that my best mate has gone. I’m struggling. I can’t lie.”

But far from criticising the player, who admitted at the moment he doesn’t give a s*** about football, Bluebirds fans have taken to message boards to sympathise with the £30k per week star.

Writing on the Cardiff City Forum, Canton Stand Baz said: “The best thing we can do as fans is get behind him on the pitch.

“If he does play again we need to support him not have a go.”

Zabier added: I would take Bellamy's comment literally. He's going through a rough time and when we're experiencing hard times we can say something that can be easily misinterpreted.

I can appreciate where Craig is coming from losing a good mate to suicide and hope he sorts everything out. If Craig gets to lead a happier life at the cost of not playing for us then that would be fine by me. I can certainly see what he means by saying he doesn't give a shit about football. There are more important things in life.

While Bluebird for Life wrote: “He could do with the support of as many city fans as possible as he tries to work his way through what must be a very difficult time for all of his family. A rich, successful, footballer he may be, but he is still prone to the same angst in his life as everyone else. Give him a break - he almost certainly didn't mean that quote to be taken literally.”

Gary Speed
“His death has affected so many people who knew him.

“I still can't get my head around his death and I didn't even know him.

“I really do hope that Craig can sort himself out and get his marriage back on track, and if he has to retire from the game to achieve this then I wish him well.”

Matty P added: “While Cardiff City is very important to many (myself included) family is and should always have precedent over everything else.

“To be honest, it might even be worth giving him another couple of weeks off, we have the depth to cope and hopefully give Craig a chance to work through what is going on in his life currently.”

And Tru Blue was positive in saying: “I think though when times are tough for people the football pitch allows them to forget that for a small amount of time.

“Give the bloke some time and I think it won't affect his game one bit. Those 90 minutes will allow him to forget all his issues albeit for a short period.”

In the revealing interview, Bellamy, who was captain of Team GB at this summer’s Olympics, said: “I can’t tell you how hard it is. It’s the worst time in my life ever.”

Last month he joined Cardiff City on a two-year deal from Liverpool and played in their opening two npower Championship matches before being sidelined with a calf injury.

Manager Malky Mackay had previously suggested that his star striker could be in line for a recall for Saturday’s match against Leeds United.

Its good that the echo have quoted the positive comments on here rather than creating lies and misquoting people like most papers do.hopefully it will make him feel better knowing that he has the backing of the football club and fans
