Where to start? Cardiff City could go with any number of formations or personnel after a plethora of signings swelled the ranks of an already strong squad.
Definitely out is Craig Bellamy (calf) who joins long term absentees Stephen McPhail and Rudy Gestede. With no disrespect to either of those two, neither would be near the current matchday squad having missed much of pre-season and given the competition facing them.
The big question for Malky Mackay is over big Ben Turner. The centre-half has a foot injury and will face a late fitness test to determine whether he or Matthew Connelly will partner Hudson in the heart of the City defense.
The midfield and striking departments are a mystery. You have to assume that Whittingham will play while there is some confusion over whether Nicky Maynard is eligible. Craig Noone and Kim Bo Kyung will be itching to start while Tommy Smith did well on debut but looks a contender for bench duty.
The likes of Robert Earnshaw and youngsters Joe Ralls and Kadeem Harris look set for lengthy omissions from the squad while regular starter Don Cowie could well find himself the fall guy in midfield.
