Thanks mate. Out of all the dealings I've been quietly hoping and confident we'd get Maynard. Let's not forget Leicester were preparing a 6m bid for him in January. West Ham bought up the best talent to stop all their rivals. It's a tremendous coup for us. He's Earnie ten years ago and with this midfield behind him and when Malky gets the system right, he's a 25 a season man

Let's hope so. Do you reckon we will get any loans in, defenders of course!

I think so Carpe. It's no secret that Malky has been looking for another defender as cover - centre half/left back - there's plenty who fit the bill at centre/right back but it's quite a specialised target having a centre back with a decent left peg!

As I've read a few times lately though, perhaps we'll get to see one or two of our midfielders help out as wing-backs from time to time?

CityGent,

How close was Malky to signing a defender before the deadline?

It hasn't been for the want of trying. The same people who gave me all the info that came true 9 times out of 10 said we definitely made an approach for Martin Kelly on a season long loan but after Brendan Rodgers took over Liverpool things unfortunately changed and Rodgers has kept faith with several of the youngsters by including them in the 25 man squad. Another interest of ours was Martin Taylor. He's now ended up at Sheff Wed so I'm not sure if our interest cooled once Matt Connolly became available. To be fair to Malky and his staff they've worked tirelessly this summer - i can see at least one defender on loan soon. When does the window open? Or is it open already
