iPhone problem, advice needed, Merlin help!

Mon Aug 27, 2012 9:01 pm

I seriously water damaged my iPhone a day or two ago, thankfully it still works for the most part.

Initially I could not hear people who phoned me and the ringer wasn't working, after some research I thoroughly cleaned out the headphone hole and that fixed that issue.

The only remaining problem I have is the damn thing is stuck in headphone mode, so I can't listen to music or hear YouTube videos etc through the main phone speaker, it works when I put the headphones in but doesn't after they have been removed, the volume slider is missing also in music and videos mode.

It's obviously an issue in the headphone slot.

I've tried a soft reboot, I haven't done a full restore yet, what do you think?? Hardware issue???

When liquid gets into an iphone you are suppose to resist the temptation to switch it back on. You should have turned it off immediately and put it in a bag of rice in the airing cupboard for around 48hrs.then I could have possibly saved it. Turning the iphone on and off repeatedly causes the shorting out of electronic components and the battery.

It may be too late, but you should do this now with the phone powered off - the warmth and the rice will drain 99% of the moisture out of the phone.

Try it again after this time. If it does nothing drop it up to me so I can have a look if you like and we'll take it apart and inspect it. PM me if you want my number.

I had the same issue last week after spilling a drink on my iPhone.
Googling the issue came up with cleaning out the headphone jack with a cotton bud.
That didn't work, so a bit more googling came up with sucking air out of the headphone jack with your mouth.
Didn't think it would work, but tried it anyway. And low and behold, my iPhone is back to working normally!

Water damage is a bitch with iphones - 90% of the time the phone will have a reoccurring problem that is unfixable!

I would never advise anyone to just do a "some one Stole my iphone" - claim.
That would just be immoral! ;)

Take it to apple and they will repair/replace it! Have to make a genius appointment online though first.....
