Blake to revive career at Palace

Fri Aug 24, 2012 5:38 am

Cardiff City outcast Darcy Blake will look to revive his career with Crystal Palace after the Bluebirds agreed to let him join Championship rivals Crystal Palace in a deal with close on £350,000.
Blake, 23, leaves his local club after 13 years on City's books, having failed to break into Malky Macky's first X1 plans.
But while Blake heads to London, QPR striker Tommy Smith is coming in the opposite direction to sign for City in a £300,000 move.
Experienced striker Smith, 32, had a medical in South Wales yesterday afternoon and should be officially unveiled as manager Mackay's newest signing today.

The Echo revealed last week that Blake would be leaving Cardiff, with Selhurst Park his most likely destination.
The player himself confirmed the move on his twitter account yesterday afternoon.

He tweeted: 'Officially a Palace player. Can't wait for this fresh start.

'Enjoyed every minute playing for Cardiff. Want to thank every1 who supported me.'
It is a big move for the Welsh international, who first joined City's Academy as a 10-year-old, but whose contract with the club would have been up next summer.

He goes straight Palace squad for tomorrow's Championship match at Middlesbrough and manager Dougie Freedman could give him a debut after the Londoners were beaten 4-1 at Bristol City in midweek.
Blake will be hoping for regular first team football in a bid to hold onto his starting spot in Chris Coleman's Wales team.
Mackay's swoop for Smith means City have spent £5.8m on transfer fees this summer.
Kim Bo-Kyung and Jordon Mutch cost £2m each, Etien Velikonja was a £1m buy from NK Maribor and Matt Connolly a £500,000 capture from QPR.

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis, Heidar Helguson and Craig Bellamy, signed on free transfers, taking the number of signings to eight.
That almost certainly marks the end of City's business on bringing in new players before the end of the August transfer window.
Smith made 17 Premier League appearances for QPR last season, scoring two goals. He has cost fees totalling £4m-plus in his career.
