Crystal Palace in the late 70's /early 80's - just a grass/shale bank with no roof, not great in wet weather

Portsmouth - like living in the 1930's, toilets were a wall painted white

Jacks - Old Vetch Field double tiered effort - why did it take them so long to condemn it?

Bristol Rovers Eastville Stadium - crumbling terracing, knee high weeds and dangerously rusty crash barriers

Old Wembley Stadium - if you were at the front you couldn't see the whole pitch, same at the back, and if you were in the middle they had loads of pillars

suprisingly, Newcastle, so far from the pitch you may as well watch the TV, was so disappointed, the players wouldn't know you were there unless you all had megaphones, :old:

I've only ever been to 3: Hereford, Plymouth and Arsenal. Think the answer will be pretty straight forward from that list.

Forgotten about that one.

People having asthma attacks at the top of the stairs, what was it 15 or 16 flights of stairs. The game was like watching Subbuteo.

Exeter - the bogs made Ninian seem posh!

Withdean, Brighton - remember seeing us win there 2 nil - but when we scored in the 1st half we were so far away from the goal you couldn't be sure if it was Leo or Earnie that scored it!

Barnet away late 90s. Temporary stand, no roof, rained all day. I think we drew.
Took the mrs cos it was valentines day. She were not impressed.
Made up for it by going to primal scream all nighter in Brixton in the night.
Great day

Best away end - elm Park FA cup tie early/mid 90s. Think we lost AET.

We got nicked fighting with the home fans on their terrace. As i was being led out a well
known Gabalfa lad came and slapped me across the head told the copper "youd best nick
him, hes my brother, i'l batter him on the coach for embarrassing the family".. the copper
thought he was sending me off to my doom. Let me go

Good thread.....made me smile recalling some away grounds.

Brentford, Barnet, Colchester, Southend, Brighton, Hartlepool, Chesterfield, Gillingham, Cheltenham (may be the worst as far as the away end goes...good trip though!), Cambridge, Peterborough, Walsall, Crewe (played them 6 times a season - away not so long back, or it seemed like it), Tranmere (and them!) and many, many more......Bournemouth, Rotherham, Wycombe.....

Happy days.

Like Gwyn, reflecting on Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool et al..... the good days were in less grand settings!!
