Happened at the opening ceremony as well. The inventor of the modern olympic games was French, can't remember his name, Pierre something.

They're in french first in all events and opening and closing ceremony. The main language of the olympics is french as more countries in the world hold that as their main language. when making announcements, it goes French then english then the native language of the country hosting the olympics

If we're going by things like that surely speakers of the language would make more sense.

So English first or if we're being pedantic Mandarin first.

That isn't true :lol: The inventor of the modern olympics was French, that's why.

Most likely. More countries in the world do not hold French as their main language, look it up. I think the IOC's first language is French, which is what they meant by "the main language of the olympics". However, it's primarily to do with the founder of the modern olympics being a Frenchman.

French and English are the two official languages of the Olympics. Sorry if this had already been posted, couldn't be arsed to read the replys. :lol: :ayatollah:

OoohGa is correct its because the guy who invented the modern olympics was french. By the way French is the 4th most spoken language in the world ;)
