City turn down bids for Gerrard

Fri Aug 03, 2012 1:19 pm

Cardiff City have turned down two offers for out-of-favour defender Anthony Gerrard.

Championship rivals Bristol City and Leicester City have both made bids thought to be in the region of £200,000.

But Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has rejected both offers despite being keen to off-load the centre-half.

Gerrard’s days at Cardiff City Stadium appeared numbered last month when he was left behind as the rest of the squad travelled to Switzerland for a pre-season training camp.

The 26-year-old told fans on Twitter he had not been given a reason for the snub, and he is clearly well behind the likes of Ben Turner, Mark Hudson and even Darcy Blake in the manager’s thinking.

Leicester and Bristol City are now considering whether to up their offers, while other Championship clubs are also believed to have expressed interest.

Gerrard struggled for a first-team place during a disappointing season last term that also saw him miss the vital penalty in the heartbreaking Carling Cup final defeat against Liverpool.

Malky,

Please just get rid of him. £200,000 will do.

It will pay Bellamy's wages for 2/3 Months. :D :ayatollah:

Think he's only got a year left so won't get a million for him,500 to 750 k I would want for him :ayatollah:

£600k at most. I'd accept £400k just to get him off our books, keep Keinan in reserve then :ayatollah:

if one of them came back with 250,000 i would snap their hand off

should have done a deal with Hull to sign him at the end of his loan spell there. Take the £200k & let him move on. I'd rather keep Dekel Keinen who is a model pro and imo a better defender than Gerrard

Anything over £400,000 is good business, in my opinion. After all, City's initial bid for Gerrard whilst he was at Walsall was £200,000.

Why dont we just get rid of the cry baby 200k is better than nothing once hes out of contract after this seasons over + paying him to sit int he stands for 95% of it this season comming no doubt :ayatollah:

Not worth £200k.

Useless piece of shit that spends more time on twitter than the pitch

400k is a realistic price to be fair

Would prefer it if he didn't go to Leicester tbh, as I think he could do well for them!

He had a good half at Forest Green and took a bit of stick from a handful of KCB boys, who ragged him about missing the pen!

Surely you don't believe he missed the penalty on purpose?

I don't believe he missed it on purpose but I believe he had a lot of things running through his mind and should never have been allowed to take a pen.

You're probably right Luke, but the amount of people who have inferred that he missed the penalty on purpose on here, is amazing!

Didnt trawl through the posts so dont know if its been said, but imo MM will wait till he gets his defensive cover in before releasing anyone from defence. ;)
