Craig Bellamy - £70k a week at Cardiff ?

Fri Aug 03, 2012 12:21 pm

Cardiff City have opened talks with Liverpool over a deal for Wales legend Craig Bellamy.

The 33-year-old, who is currently starring for Team GB at the Olympics, is considering quitting boyhood club Liverpool for a second time after failing to get reassurances over playing time.

Bellamy is desperate to earn a regular run in Brendan Rodgers' new-look Reds side next season, having only played 24 times last year, with many of his appearances coming as a substitute.

The journeyman forward is set to meet with Rodgers after the Olympics finish, but has already indicated that he is looking at options elsewhere, with West Ham, QPR and former loan club Cardiff emerging as options.

Indeed, a return to Wales with Cardiff is looking an increasing possibly, after the Championship side opened talks with Liverpool over a deal earlier this week.

It's thought that Cardiff are unlikely to stump up a fee for the player, but will take on all of his reported £70,000-a-week wages, and allow Rodgers to invest the cash elsewhere.

Cardiff believe they represent a better alternative to Premier League battlers West Ham and QPR, having made promotion their top target following a number of impressive signings over the summer.

Joe Lewis, Jordon Mutch, Etien Velikonja and Heidar Helguson have all been snapped up, and manager Malky Mackay is confident he can add Bellamy to that list in the next few weeks.

Mackay has been given the financial backing by owner Chan Tien Ghee, and talks are expected to continue over the weekend.

Don't know how many things they can get wrong in one story

1. Boyhood Club?
2. All of his 70k-a-week? He is on more than that, and there is no way we would afford all that.
3. No Kimbo in the signings?
4. Owner Chan Tien Ghee?? - Surely he is Chairman and co-owner?

That seems like a story from a month ago. It also reads like a Liverpool propoganda statement whereby Bellamy is not wanted. This stops their fans from being annoyed due to his efforts last season and in the Olympics.

None of our players should be on more than 15k but he can have 45k if we get to the premiership.

Bellamy is not coming to this club, he's a money grabbing heartless b*stard who left this club after promising to play for free. He was also a PLASTIC as a boy, a person so many of you claim to hate.
