Gavin Chesterfield’s Barry Town team are gearing up for Cardiff City next Wednesday (8 August), and have racked up a string of pre-season victories as the big game approaches.

After winning 3-0 in Tiverton against Elmore AFC of the Western League, Barry returned to Wales this week with wins over Filton College and Goytre AFC.

Against Filton, the Town raced into a two-goal lead through TJ Nagi and a Josh Bell penalty. While the Englishmen would break the back of the net with an outstanding effort, another goal from Nagi and two from double specialist Christian Doidge gave Barry a decisive 5-1 victory.

Then, versus former Welsh League Cup holders Goytre in Pontypool, the returning Nickie Jones bagged a brace for himself, en route to a forceful 4-0 Dragons win. Substitutes Lewis Clare and last season’s top scorer Bell completed the rout.

At press time, assistant coaches Damon Searle and Mike Cosslett were preparing a youthful Barry XI for a final warm-up outing against the newly-named Cardiff Metropolitan University side (formerly UWIC) in Cyncoed.

Meanwhile, preparations are well underway for the visit of the Bluebirds, with ongoing council work on the Jenner Park pitch and supporters continuing to assist in the restoration of stadium facilities.

On Sunday from 10am, members of the Barry Town Supporters Committee will in the ground continuing their efforts, and all members of the community are welcome to come and help out.

The BTSC is also welcoming any volunteers willing to assist on match day, and encourage would-be helpers to pop along on Sunday to discuss roles they may be able to fulfil.

Tickets for the Cardiff match will also be available on Sunday.

However, the BTSC is keen to stress that there will be no pay on the gate admission at the game, and that anyone wishing to attend must purchase their tickets in advance (see http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/BarryTownSC

This is to ensure maximum safety for all patrons and to allow ticket checkers to allow everyone safely into the ground in ample time for kick-off.

There will be an allocation behind the bar at Jenner Park this week, but it must be stressed that these tickets will be limited in supply.

The BTSC advises that ticketholders arrive in good time; with close to 1,000 tickets sold at the time of press, some queues are anticipated.

Around 500 tickets are still available online at http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/BarryTownSC and we encourage supporters to book ASAP to avoid disappointment.

All ticket monies raised go to the independent, non-profit and fan-run Barry Town Supporters Committee, whose ‘DIY football’ ethos has helped make this match a reality.

Malky Mackay; "I've learned a lot about Barry's great history during my time here in Cardiff. I'm sure it will be a fantastic night for everyone on August 8th".
