CARDIFF CITY boss Malky Mackay saw his side lose to Forest Green Rovers in their first friendly outing of the preseason and insisted the hunt for further players to his squad could go right down to the transfer window wire.

A goal in the 25th minute by the Conference side’s Omar Komora sealed the win at The New Lawn in a clash which saw Mackay field two different sides in each half.

It was a move with cost the Bluebirds when they had to play almost the whole of the second period with ten men having used up their quota of substitutes when Stephen McPhail limped off.

But Mackay said the match had been mainly about fitness and, despite handing debuts to new signings Joe Lewis and Etien Velikonja, the Bluebirds boss said the hunt for new personnel ahead of the forthcoming Championship sesaon would continue.

“It was really a fitness session for us and I wasn’t expecting to learn too much about my senior players,” said Mackay.

“The pitch was fantastic and I did know it was going to be a nice little work out for us. I was always going to give everyone 45 minutes each.

“We had agreed to have rolling substitutes, but then the referee said the FA would have a go at him if he permitted it, but that’s the way things go.

“It was very much for us about getting people touching the ball again and we can move forward in our preparations.

“We are still looking at new signings. We are delighted to have the ones we have and now we have various irons in the fire in terms of the next month.

“I would like to get them in as quickly as possible, but I’m realistic to know that these things often go to August 31.”

Don Cowie, Kevin McNaughton, Rudy Gestede and new midfielder Jordon Mutch missed the Rovers’ game with injury and will not feature at the Bluebirds’ next friendly outing at Cheltenham on Tuesday, but they should be in contention for Cardiff’s trip to Oxford on Saturday.

Also a little hint in there - "We are delighted to have the ones we have and now we have various irons in the fire in terms of the next month."

Irons. West Ham. Nicky Maynard. :D

Chickens and hatch and all that springs to mind
"it could go down to the wire again"
does that mean there may not be anymore signings?,surely the longer he leaves it less players will be available who fit his criteria.
"today was about touching the ball"
does that mean they only did piggy back riding and synchronised swimming in Switzerland, did they even take a ball with them :?: they have been on holiday for a few weeks not had a new set of legs and a brain transplant requiring learning to play from scratch, come on folks do you really think this team can challenge.
Promises Promises

And don't say it's just a friendly,Swindon thumped them 4-1 and we couldn't even score once.

I doubt it.

He said it a while ago and we have signed a few players since. He is just stating the obvious really.

It's obvious prem clubs won't let squad players go until they get a replacement.
I'd be surprised if we didn't get another 3-4players

Not a very encouraging comment, tbh. Compounded with the fact that Earnie now has a future with us, & Dekel & AG both traveled with the Squad yesterday [so i heard],,,,it does make me wonder.

I did state in another thread, that i thought we may only sign more player's (except beller's) when the premier league teams have to submit their 25 man squad, which obviously makes sense, of those who did travel and play yesterday, (who may have been on their way out ? ) gerrard and keinan, certainly did themselves no harm at all, overall we were not very good but it was a fair run out against a side who have played several matches so were maybe match fitter (even so we should be beating sides like that ) and we will get match fitter and sharper during our next few friendlies, keep the faith :ayatollah:

Obviously its good to sign players. But signing at the last minute isn't a good thing.

if possible. all signings should be done before pre-season IMO.

A CB is long overdue , if we go into this season with the hoof-brothers in tandem I fear for our goals against column , DK & AG need not apply imho !

I came away yesterday concerned that we haven't or will not make much progress from last year. Anyone else think that we are still like for like?

as I said a few days ago..,

the old saying goes the early bird catches the worm,

I got ridiculed and called a cu*t and to stop being negative,
theirs still a chance he wont get who he wants,
and we'l be left deflated

I know for a fact they worked hard to try and bring more players in swiftly, but for some reason VT is undoubtedly holding back big financial side of things, due to his own business plans taking a stint...

we're just a profitable investment he see's cardiff city as ££££££ he doesnt see us as a football club with hopes and dreams

not only that, players agents know the game and people who are involved with this club, they will advise players cardiff city might not be the best career move for them , thats why we lose out to so many players.
all bad signs IMO some agents know this game inside out, our tv apperance proved this last year

Interesting comments Srl, but what do you mean regarding tv appearances last season?
