Cardiff Still Confident Of Signing Kim

Fri Jul 20, 2012 5:11 am

Kim Bo-KyungCardiff City manager Malky Mackay is confident of completing the deal for South Korea star Kim Bo-Kyung despite red tape holding the move up.

The Bluebirds fought off competition from Celtic and Brussia Dortmund to land the player in a €3 million deal that was expected to be signed and sealed earlier this week.

That has not yet been possible, but Mackay believes Kim is on the verge of becoming a Bluebird.

“Everything went perfect with the agent and the player,” said Mackay of the talks.

“I’m pretty confident it will go through, There are just one or two things to sort out at the Japanese end.”

Kim plays in the JLeague for Cerezo Osaka, where he has shone and scored goals.

He will team up with the Bluebirds once the Olympics are over, where he is hoping to help South Korea win a medal in the football tournament at London 2012.

Meanwhile, Cardiff have pulled out of the race to sign Coventry defender Richard Keogh because Malky Mackay does not wish to become involved in a bidding war.

Derby and Leeds each moved in for the centre-back once the Bluebirds’ interest became known and Mackay chose to look elsewhere to bolster his squad.

It is understood Derby are offering Keogh £12,000 a week to move to Pride Park and Mackay believes he can utilise that sort of money better.

The City manager has set his sights on landing another defender and also plans to recruit a striker and a wide-man by the time the January transfer window is over.

Mackay is still hoping to land Craig Bellamy, but is still waiting to see what the Wales striker’s future holds at Liverpool.

Of the Bluebirds’ week at UEFA headquarters in Switzerland, Mackay said: “It’s been a fantastic week and we’ve worked with brilliant facilities.”

Dragging on for ages though this one. Opportunity for someone to do a smash and grab on Kimbo IMO.

Forgive me if my memory has failed me here, but was it not the case that we were equally confident of signing Keogh??

Not really. Keogh was messing us around from day one. It's different with this guy Kim-Bo and his people. They've shook on a deal and Mackay would'nt give statements on other teams players like that unless he knew it was in the bag. To be honest, even when its on the official site there will still be Cardiff fans saying" I won't believe it until he's on the pitch"

Only what i said the other day about the hold up of Japanese paperwork which Malky alluded to in his interview yesterday. I've never seen him speak so forthright about a target as he's been quoted there. The delays are naturally frustrating but everything I've heard and read on the subject it seems to be all pointing to one thing - good news

Yeah he's always really quick to bring out the 'I'm not going to say anything about another teams player' line but here he is open.

Positive stuff!
