KIMBO WANTS DEAL DONE QUICKLY

Tue Jul 17, 2012 7:05 am

ASIAN star Kim Bo-Kyung is keen to complete his transfer to Cardiff City quickly – and then focus on South Korea’s bid for Olympic success.

Kim, 22, flew into London from Seoul on Sunday and the £2.4m rated midfielder spent yesterday in talks with Bluebirds’ officials.

Those talks will continue through today at least even though manager Malky Mackay is in Switzerland with his City squad for a week-long training camp.

Mackay will stay in contact with Cardiff chief executive Alan Whiteley and head of recruitment Iain Moody who met met Kim and his advisors in London yesterday to try and complete the deal.

There is no doubt Kim is keen to join Cardiff and he was happy to talk about the prospect, saying: “There are other teams in Europe who wanted to sign me but we have agreed on Cardiff City.”

Kim revealed that Celtic ace Ki Sung-Yueng, who also in the South Korean Olympic squad, has given him advice on how to adapt to British football.

Celtic were also keen on signing Kim but Cardiff have won the chase, even though close friend Ki was advising him.

Mackay has the backing from City’s Malaysian investors to outbid Celtic on both the transfer fee and wages. And Kim is relishing the chance to play League football for the Bluebirds, saying: “The Championship is known for its physical play but I’ll be ready for it.

“Ki Sung-Yueng has been giving me valuable advice to help me settle in.

“Learning the English language is a top priority for me and I’ll do my best to fit in with the other players.”

Kim is currently with Cerezo Osaka in Japan’s JLeague but now looks certain to commit to a long-term contract at Cardiff.

He has also talked about staying in European football after his time in South Wales ends, adding: “The next step is for me to play well for the team but Cardiff will not be first and only club in Europe.”

Kim has been busy preparing for the Olympic Games and South Korea defeated fellow London 2012 competitors New Zealand 2-1 in a warm-up game last weekend.

Their first group match at the Olympics is against Mexico at Newcastle on July 26, while they also play Switzerland and Gabon.

Kim’s agent Lee Yeung Joong insists any deal must be completed before the Olympics start and City are keen to complete negotiations as quickly as possible.

If, as expected, Kim’s transfer is confirmed he will join the Bluebirds squad as soon as South Korea’s interest in the Olympic football tournament ends.

The final is scheduled for August 11 at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Mackay left central defenders Anthony Gerrard and Dekel Keinan back in South Wales when the Cardiff squad headed out to Switzerland.

Coventry centre-back Richard Keogh remains a target for the Bluebirds with the Cardiff futures of Gerrard and Keinan looking bleak.

Gerrard said in reply to questions on Twitter: “For everyone asking, I haven’t been given a reason why I haven’t gone (to Switzerland). I’m only interested in getting fitter, so that is my main concern.”

Ben Turner, Mark Hudson and Darcy Blake are clearly ahead of Gerrard and Keinan, and the potential arrival of Keogh would push them further down the pecking order.

Leeds and Derby are also keen on the £1m-rated Keogh who has been left out of the Coventry squad for their pre-season trip to Scotland.

Cardiff have already had an offer of around £800,000 for the 25-year-old Keogh rejected.

He wanted it done before the olympics started, not sure but when do the olympics finish?

Does that sound like he's signing today though????

Got to be honest, that statement don't really fill me with confidence about the kim signing. Going by yesterdays threads I thought the medical was done, everything was sorted and it just had to be announced.

Let's just hope it is done today eh? :D :ayatollah:

It's not like Cardiff not to rush things eh? :-)

He's passed his medical and as Carl mentioned one or two formalities to be completed. I honestly can't see this as another Marcus Bent/Jody Morris saga. Those two were cunts and not honourable

HOPE you are right because at this stage it would be a kick in the teeth

The article says that the Olympic Football Final is on August 11th, although their Olympics could be effectively over if they lose heavily to Mexico on 26th July ;)

This is really dragging out now, I fear that if this is not sorted (announced) today, we may lose him to another club. :?

As a matter of interest anyone know what counts as a 'formality?' :?

Don't quote me on it, but international clearance for one?

Surely this would have been sorted long before any medical though? :?

(assuming it is something along those lines)

To be fair, clubs usually announce their signings on official websites "pending international clearance"?

I think there may be something else in this??!! :?

Everyone relax. It will be confirmed eventually surely.

Just a bit more paperwork to finish probably as he needs international clearance/permits etc.

Non EEC player, very young not many caps, not played in 75% of his countries last 12 games, as long as an agreement as been made, we will just have to be patient. Any other team interested in him, would have to go through these formalities too. I think (hope) we and Kim are too far down the road, for any change of heart.

This is the slowest quick deal ever!

Re: KIMBO WANTS DEAL DONE QUICKLY

£18,000 a week plus his signing on fee and buying fee, which I think is £2mill.
Mille gone now, saving us £25,000 a week, cost us £800,000, but gave him away Free.

Hopefully we don't miss Miller and we have gained a better a player.

My thinking is he was a quick signing last season (in fairness most were). MM said he didn't do a dossier on him :o

But in reality he has to look at this season and what's best. 25k or whatever is a lot of money he has to weigh up whats best for the club. 700k is a lot but at the same time u can pay that for a loan fee.

Over two years prob a bad deal but it's never thy simplistic.
