Only possible outcome after the SFL placed Livingston into the 3rd division in 2009. Sporting fairness and the integrity of the competition must come first.

Well done to the SFL clubs for doing the right thing.

A lot of people up here are saying the same thing, to be fair, all the rangers fans i know (including my brother in law) are saying they should be in the third division, this is pay back time from all the other clubs that the old firm have financialy raped and bullied over the years, it would have been the same feeling from all these clubs if it was celtic in this position.

On the bright side Celtic are always trying to sign our transfer targets, let's see how they manage that with no sky tv money!

As for current affairs, let's hope they bin their interest in Kim, until they reevaluate their budgets

There we are. If there was a precedent set, there was no need to change for the sake of the big club.

Justice, but still a sad day for football, in my opinion. I'm not a Rangers fan or a Loyalist or anything like that, I just think it's sad to see a longstanding club as big as they are to be in such trouble. Others will follow, no doubt.

Roath Magic Daps is trying his best to put some kind of curse on us, so we shouldn't laugh too much, because it could be us in the future.

Would it be the end of the English game if it happened to Manchester United?

Livingston were a member club who wered demoted for various reasons.

Rangers(as they are) are a new club, applying for membership of the SFL - totally different scenario. Annan Athletic & Gretna appled for previous vacancies and started at the bottom as they should.

Rangers have not been demoted, and it is wrong for anyone to dress it up like that.

Livingston were placed in administration on 24th July 2009 and the administrator began liquidation proceedings on the 29th July, the same as Rangers, and the following day the SFA, the administrator and the new investor reached an agreement which would allow the club to compete in the SFL the following season.

Both clubs entered liquidation, both clubs attract new owners and now both clubs placed in the 3rd division sounds the same to me. However Livingston were demoted to the division 3 as punishment for a breach of SFL rules relating to insolvency
rules.Punishment is the same for both clubs except Livingston who also had topay a £750k bond to the SFL.

Not sure how you "Dress up" liquidation but one club, Livingston, attempted to maintain their position by not forming a new club and paying the previous owner for his shares. However the SFL intervened charged the club with a breach of insolvency rules and demoted them.

Different scenario my arse. ;)

Clubs will have to cross that bridge when they come to it. None of them should be banking on TV money after the Setanta collapse shafted them all a few years back. Clubs will adjust, many have been cutting back for years now so it is nothing new to them.

who gives a shit ,scottish football is shit ,how they can say it will affect the rest when from lge 1-3 down some clubs only get 450 odd fans anyway...there other leagues are a joke and no better than the welsh league.

they'll be back in a few years anyway guaranteed !!...the smaller clubs will make more money from them and it also gives other clubs a chance of challenging for things in the spl so it aint all that bad...it would've been wrong if just cos it was rangers they were put in div 1.

And why were Livingston demoted and please not just various reasons what specific rules did they break. Couldn't be the SFL rule which prohibits the transfer of membership following a solvent reconstruction without the prior written permission of the League.

Sorry but the liquidation process had started with the club, it only lasted 1 day, and new investors purchased the club which amounted to a transfer of the share without the written permission of the league. A new club should have been formed, as with Rangers, but wasn't and Livingston paid the price, demotion to the lowest tier of the pyramid, the price a new co would have paid exactly as Rangers have.

What were "The various" reasons why Livingston were demoted in your opinion.

Not really. Rangers brought over 16 million a year in advertising revenue for the SPL and SFL which will now be completely lost and clubs will have to some how recoup this funding (ie Celtic playing friendlies mid-season). Shorted sighted chairman and fans have basically stabbed Scottish football in the heart with this decision and we will now see the slow decline of other clubs.

The right decision and a boost for the smaller clubs in the third division--

I didnt watch Rangers when they played Hearts and Aberdeen so it doesnt matter to me anyway or most TV viewers.

Its a pity that Portsmouth didnt get similar treatment for conning us out of an FA cup win --

Also proves how Leeds Leicester, Southampton, Derby QPR etc got away with murder.

Cant believe that over 40 clubs have now been in Admin in England and Wales

Newport and Wrexham among them

Some of the things you stated, other financial irregularities, administration for a second time. There was a heap of things, and they were treated rightly in my opinion(they should never have been allowed to franchise in the first place but that's another argument altogether). The SFL deemed with them as they saw fit to punish a member club.

Rangers Newco were not a member club hence why the first vote today was for acceptnace into the SFL as a new club. The second vote was to decide which division they would play in. There should never have been any doubt they would start at the bottom of the SFL and if anyone else had applied and been accepted they would have started in the 3rd division.
