Tom Heaton all set to decide on his next move
June 28th media wales

TOM Heaton, the goalkeeper who produced Carling Cup heroics for Cardiff City last season, will decide on his playing future over the next few weeks.

The former Manchester United stopper turned down the offer of a new Bluebirds contract to go in search of regular first team football.

David Marshall was Cardiff’s No.1 last season, while Heaton was outstanding during their run to the Carling Cup final against Liverpool.

“I have several opportunities and am thinking those through,” says Heaton, who made more than 60 first team appearances for City over two spells with the club.

“My aim is to make a decision over the next few weeks.”

A number of Championship clubs have been linked with Heaton including Hull City, Ipswich Town and Leeds United among those who need a starting keeper. Bristol City, who released David James at the end of last season, and Burnley among others.

Hull manager Steve Bruce is chasing hard for American stopper Brad Guzan, while Neil Warnock, in charge at Leeds, seems intent on signing Paddy Kenny from QPR.

Manager Malky Mackay moved quickly to recruit a replacement for Heaton, signing promising keeper Joe Lewis from Championship rivals Peterborough.

Scottish international Marshall looks certain to be No.1 at the start of next season, but Lewis is determined to launch a strong challenge.

Former Aston Villa goalkeeper Elliot Parish, 22, is the third senior keeper in Cardiff’s squad.

Heaton was among seven senior professionals who left City at the end of last season.

The other six were Lee Naylor, Paul Quinn, Jon Meades, Alex Evans, Canadian keeper Jordan Santiago and Aaron Wildig, who has signed for League One Shrewsbury Town.

Midfielder Liam Lawrence returned to Portsmouth after his loan spell and still has two years left on his contract with the south coast club.

I'm gutted he left, I'm annoyed at Malky for not giving him more starts! He deserved it after the Carling Cup! Oh sorry, Capital One Cup. :ayatollah:

I hope not, but I think he may regret leaving.

However, he deserves first team football, it just may not be with a club of the quality that he deserves.

I don't see the point stickying this since he hasn't been a Cardiff player for a while now.

Great player for us. Done well. He added history to Cardiff City Fc. Not taking anything away from the team or the players who put away them penaltys that night but he played against Oxford, Huddersfield, Burnley, Blackburn, Crystal Palace (1st and 2nd leg) and Liverpool.
Dont blame for leaving. :ayatollah:

I'm surprised he hasn't been snapped up yet. I still think he was our best keeper and it wouldn't have surprised me if even a top Premiership club signed him because of the number of English players they must have registered now. Chelsea signed Ross Turnbull and Man City signed Stuart Taylor after all! But Heaton is a top keeper and definitely a much better keeper than Turnbull and Taylor. If he gets first team football and keeps up the run of form he showed in the Carling Cup, he will one day be called up for England, mark my words!

Agree with you Tonteg :ayatollah: better than both Turnbull and Taylor. would be a good number 2 at a permier league club.
If Tom Heaton is to stay in the Championship,a club like Burnley for me would suit him as its close to the North West.

Good Luck to him - One of the nicest guys you could meet :ayatollah:

I prefer Heaton over Marshall really gutted about this also hes a better keeper than Lewis also I would be deviated if he ended up at Leeds or Bristol city as well. I wish Wildig well 2 I have a feeling that Natalie and Quinn will end up at Sheffield Wednesday. I hope Malky can get Lawrence on a permanent
