What is the difference between a brain injury and a mental illness? Just wondering what is the main way people distingiush between brain injury and mental illness?

Mental illness is more of a psychological pattern.
Brain injury is as the result of an external force hitting the head.
Brain injury is as the result of an external force hitting the head.

A brain injury is physical, "injury" being the key word, mental illness is anything from anxiety, depression through to dementia.. get it?

I would recommend typing DSM IV into google
This lists ALL the psychological conditions
In answer to your question a Physical Injury to the brain can sometimes cause mental instability which results in a Mental Illness or Condition.
