I'm trying to learn the rules of betting, so can someone explain to me what evens is?

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/int ... 012/winner what does is mean when a team's odds are a single number? Like France's odds to win are 9 with bet365

Evens is what you bet you eg £10.00 you will win £10.00 ( level stakes ) so you would get back £20.00.
When a team as posted above are 9-1 this means if you put on £1.00 the bookies will give you£9.00 + your £1.00 therfore you would get back £10.00.

Right so when it says 9 it just means 9/1?

Yes and 1/9 means you have to put nine pound on to win one pound, therefor get ten back which includes your nine bet. That's what they refer to as odds on.
