" South Wales Police warn Cardiff City fans over "racist" online abuse "

By Jon DoelMay 15 2012

Malaysian backers Vincent Tan and Dato Chan
South Wales Police have stepped up surveillance of Cardiff City fans' messageboards in the wake of "racist, abusive and inappropriate messages" posted online over the last week.

Officers have contaced the owners of two popular fans' sites,http://www.ccmb.co.uk and http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk , warning them they are monitoring comments made by fans during an emotive period at the club.

Leaked plans to re-brand the club and change the colour of the Cardiff's kit from blue to red in order to crack the Asian market have split supporters and sparked strong feelings towards the club's Malaysian owners.

Billionaire backer Vincent Tan ripped up his proposed plans on Thursday after a section of Cardiff fans reacted angrily to what they saw as an unacceptable change to the club's history and heritage.

But that u-turn led to fresh fears over the club's future, with the Malaysians insisting the Bluebirds cannot continue on their current financial path.

And, following the outpouring of emotion, South Wales police have moved to ensure fans keep their comments in check.

It comes less than two months after Swansea University student Liam Stacey, 21, of Pontypridd, was jailed for mocking Bolton Wanderers footballer Fabrice Muamba on Twitter after he collapsed during a match.

Shortly after the incident that horrified the football world, Stacey post the tweet “LOL (laugh out loud). **** Muamba. He’s dead!!!”

In the following minutes, Stacey posted a series of increasingly racist tweets.

Cardiff City supporters are anxiously awaiting the outcome of a crunch board meeting today, with news of the latest twist in the incredible saga expected to be made public later today.

Mike Morris, who runs popular site ccmb today posted a warning on his site, saying: "CCMB, along with other messageboards and media outlets, is being monitored closely by South Wales Police.

"In light of what happened last week that saw racist, abusive and inappropriate messages posted on internet sites and social networking sites regarding our Malaysian backers the levels of surveillance on Cardiff City related websites has been increased.

"South Wales Police have asked me this morning to post this sticky as a warning that such behaviour will not be tolerated and they will prosecute offenders if the same thing happens again.

"A case, just a number of weeks ago, resulted in a jail term for a lad who racially abused Fabrice Muamba on the internet. The police are serious and will do all in their power to find people who post racial, abusive and inappropriate material and will prosecute.

"This message is being sent out as a proactive warning to people not to engage in such activity.

"As board admin we hold the right to remove any posts we consider inappropriate without prior warning or reason. Please, keep a cool head when posting and just think before doing so. As usual we appreciate it if you see any posts you are uncomfortable with you can click to report them.

"Michael Morris, on request of South Wales Police."

An official posting by South Wales Echo columnist Carl Curtis on http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk said: "I have been asked to advise everyone who posts on this message board that South Wales Police will not tolerate any racist comments and where necessary they will look to prosecute anyone who posts any such comments.

"There has been no complaints about this board whatsoever and we want that to remain the case."

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: “At the request of South Wales Police, two football messageboards have today posted a message to users regarding the use of racist and offensive language.

“No complaints have been received about messages posted.”

Pity they dont spend more of their time hunting down real criminals like child abusers, scum that attack old vunerable people, and worst of all f*cking drug dealers

I am sure the hard working tax payers in South Wales would agree that wasting time on football message boards is a complete waste of time (we can police our own)
