As a musician myself, the most inspiring and influential artists (not groups)for me have been before 1982!

But, since then I would have to say Beck, Jeff Buckley, Kate Bush, Mark Linkous, Neil Young, Steve Malkmous, Michael Stipe, PJ Harvey, Gillian Welch and Tom Waits.

Freddie Mercurys great work was all pre 1982. What an amazing talent he was.
