When did football "sell it's soul"?

Sat May 12, 2012 9:44 pm

In the beginning football was basically one town V another town to see which was the best at football.

Then they started charging money to watch, then players got paid, then players could change from one team to another for money, you had advertising in grounds, then players wore shin pads, scoreboards, football on radio, football on telly, goalkeepers wore gloves, seating, scoreboards, then sponsoring the leagues (remember Canon league division 1), substitutes, 3 points for a win, play offs, hooliganism, advertising on kits, foreign owners, TV subscription, white boots, snoods, diving, chicks running the line, all seater stadiums etc etc etc

It hasn't sold it's soul, It's evolved.

But we are so far divorced from our clubs now its like we are customers/clients not fans. Its soulless. Food and drink is expensive, tickets are overpriced, police treat us like animals, many players earn more in a month than i will in a lifetime, sky arrnage ko times to suit the armchair fans etc etc etc.

noone is againt evolution - its the exploitation that is killing football. We saw a breif glimpse this week of city fans fighting back. Yes some were OTT, some downright out of order but its understandable. The one thing we cling on to - our club was (in our eyes at least) being taken away from us.

Football sold out a while ago - now depends how much your price is and how much you cn put up with. Im nearing teh end of my patience, with football not city

When Jimmy Hill & Co wanted to abolish the "minimum wage" for football players. Simple answer really,,,,problem was, they never asked for a ceiling limit either. Or did they? :old:
