New training facilities = Category 1 training acedemy status

Fri May 11, 2012 9:13 pm

Why are people questioning the proposals to build a state of the art training facility. I would imagine the intention is to secure Category 1 academy status, which will help ensure we can retain, attract and indeed poach for peanuts some of the best young talent available. Very few clubs outside of the prem have secured Cat 1 status and this is an investment for the future, which will put us in a highly advantageous position.

We have all been bemoaning the lack of youth talent working its way through the ranks in recent years and that we have sold our best talent for peanuts in the past. £15 million to secure Cat 1 status, will in my opinion be money well spent and the potential money that will be recouped from developing a bigger crop of talented youngsters that we can pick up for minimal compo from other clubs which do not have Cat 1 status. The academy will pay for itself in 2-3 years and ensure we have a regular flow of youth moving into the senior team.

At last, owners with a genuine desire to build for the future and not gamble for the short term
