WELSH PREMIER champions The New Saints have entered next season’s FA Cup.
The news will send shock-waves around Welsh football as the Saints – who won the Premier title for a sixth time yesterday by thrashing Bangor City 5-0 in a winner-takes-all clash – have been at the forefront of championing domestic competitions for 20 years.
Saints managing director Mike Harris refused to comment on the issue last night, saying only that the club would releasing a statement next week.
But the Football Association website confirmed that The New Saints are among the 940 clubs who have entered FA competitions for the 2012-13 season.
The New Saints are entered for the FA Cup and FA Trophy, while continuing to keep their Welsh football commitments.
The Oswestry-based club – whose Park Hall ground is actually across the border in England – hope to complete a league and cup double next month.
They meet Cefn Druids at Bangor’s Nantporth ground on May 5 in the hope of securing a third Welsh Cup triumph.
The New Saints’ entry into the FA Cup means they join Merthyr Town and Newport County in playing in the world’s oldest cup competition, as well as the Welsh Cup.
Merthyr and Newport re-took their places in the Welsh Cup this season after an absence of nearly 20 years.
Wales’ top three clubs – Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham – have not played in the Welsh Cup since the 1994-95 season.
Football Association of Wales chief Jonathan Ford admitted last month that Uefa would probably want those Welsh clubs to withdraw from English cup competitions if they sought a Europa League spot on the back of Welsh Cup success.

So the winner of the Welsh Premier goes in to FA cup or tns are in it automatic each year?

Think TNS are in it automatic each year now as I'm pretty sure they are a half english club

the will enter at the qualifiers round 1 i believe they be out straight away

i dont think they would get knocked out in qualifying rd 1?? they are not a bad side, have beaten some european teams also. i would think they could get to at least rd 1 proper.
