LEEDS SHOULD FOLLOW CITY'S SUCCESS

Sat Apr 21, 2012 7:53 am

LEEDS defender Leigh Bromby believes the fallen Yorkshire giants need to emulate the rebuilding job carried out by Malky Mackay at Cardiff City.

Bromby, who will take his place in the centre of the Leeds defence in the Welsh capital today, played next to the Bluebirds boss at Watford in 2008.

And he knows Leeds boss Neil Warnock is looking to do a similar squad overhaul at Elland Road this summer.

“I played with Malky at Watford and he’s done an excellent job at Cardiff, He made big changes to the squad there in the summer and he’s got them playing good football,” said 31-year-old Bromby.

“He did some good business in the summer and Neil’s looking to do likewise with Leeds.

“Cardiff are going for the play-offs and they’re certainly a team we can look at. We should be going for the play-offs as a minimum next season.”

Victory for the Mackay’s men would guarantee a top-six finish and, although Leeds’ play-off hopes are over, Bromby insists there is still plenty at stake for the Whites with players fighting to be part of the Warnock’s future plans.

“We need to be fair to the other teams who still have things to play for, and we’re still playing for the fans,” he said.

“We’re also playing for our future. Neil’s said he’s planning to bring new players in and that usually means players will be going out.

“I definitely want to be part of things next season and hopefully I will show that in the performances I give.”

Warnock has made no secret of his desire for the season to come to a conclusion so he can start his rebuilding work at Elland Road.

The Leeds boss has said there will be “a lot of action in the summer” and hopes to get his first signing tied up just days after the end of the campaign.

“It’s going to be a really interesting and exciting time at the club,” said Bromby.

The only sentence that might cause a few debates here is "He's got them playing good football" - yes the first half of the season was very good, but obviously after the transfer window closed players tired, and we felt the effects. Although that's not taking anything away from Malky and what he's achieved in a very good 1st season!

Awful news, I don't think Miller touched him, I think he twisted and went down.

At least he knows he's not getting sold this summer then.
