Heard albany rd chippy is the best for fish n chips and uncle sams for fried chicken..

Top Gun in Whitchurch and Youngers in Birchgrove are probably the best in Cardiff. Other decent ones are Five Star in Llandaff North, AFB on Albany Road, Penylan fish bar on Colchester Avenue.
As far as fried chicken goes, it all tastes the same to me. And there are loads of them on City Road.

Albany Fish Bar (AFB) in Albany Road has won loads of national awards and attracts lots of celebs e.g. Lady Gaga, etc. Fish and chips is top notch and chicken curry and chips also worth a try

Roosters in llandaff north amazing chicken especially the peri peri. whole chicken and chips for seven quid clucking bargain!

Dorothy's, chippey alley. Cant beat a chip buttie from there. A little on the expensive side though

The one opposite the white heart pub on newport road st mellons, by the sea view! Its a pretty new chippy and i can't remember the name of it, but everytime I've been in there the food has been top notch

Top gun and youngers are very good but they are stingy as hell with the portions.
afb is my favourite but like others have said 5star fish bar and penylan are also good.
