Significant Upcoming Facts & Fixtures

Sat Feb 18, 2012 7:50 am

Games in hand.
Only West Ham, Hull, Brum and Boro have games in hand on us, as it stands before today's game kicks off. Believe it or not today, the only teams inside the top 10 that can move position in the league are Cardiff or Southampton.(who could go top)

Possible outcomes today.
If we win today, we will be at least 3rd, or Joint second with Southampton if they lose at home to Derby who are actually playing quite well at the moment. We would also only be 1 solitary point from the top of the table which may force some added pressure onto both West Ham & Southampton.

If we draw today, we would jump back into 3rd place ahead of Reading on goal difference, and no other team can overtake us as the closest teams to us are engaged in other competitions today/tomorrow.

If we lose today but the other top 7 teams all win their games in hand on us, It could look to have a pretty bad effect on us as then we can see ourselves dropping out of the play off places completely. Although on a positive note, We will all still be within a few points of each other and anything can happen as we know in this league!

Significant League Fixtures midweek.
West Ham do not play today as they face a tough tie away at Blackpool on Tuesday.
Middlesbrough will travel to an inform Millwall on Tuesday also, and Brighton will travel to Hull the next day.

This weekend's FA Cup - Significant Fixtures.

Birmingham are playing away at Chelsea today in the FA Cup.
Blackpool also go away to Everton today in the FA Cup.
Brighton also go away to Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Malky Mackay v's Ipswich Town
As already posted in another thread on the forum - Malky has a very good record as player/manager v's the Tractor Boys:
Malkys record against Ipswich looks like this: P13 W8 D5 L0. Then we put that against the CCFC stats v Ipswich that look like this: P40 W10 D11 L19.

Last 6 games results

Cardiff - W W D L L W = 10pts from 18pts available.

Ipswich - L D L W W W = 10pts from 18pts available.

Judging on above results it looks as though Cardiff are on the up from a small blip in their season, and can hopefully kick on from here and put a good run together in the league. Today of all days the players and staff must forget about Wembley.

Ipswich on the other hand have already recovered from a bad spell and are on a great run of form at the moment winning their last 3 games against West Ham, Coventry & Portsmouth respectively, with Michael Chopra instrumental in those games.

Summary
However, going on both of the previous stats above, Cardiff have virtually a whole new team, against an Ipswich side that have also made many recent changes including the purchases of ex-Cardiff striker Michael Chopra, and ex-Cardiff loanee attacking midfielder JET. It is of my opinion a battle of the midfield today, and Cardiff playing 5 in the middle away from home will be key to this battle. With Whitts and Vuckic back to scoring ways in previous games, and also Gestede having a great game against Posh at CCS last week, The confidence in the camp would have been lifted somewhat & our lads will know how important a win today will be.

One things for sure today, no matter what happens - this league is so unpredictable that anything can happen! We must stay positive regardless of the result, the loan window is still open, and there are still many points available (45 in fact!) and other teams around us will all still have to play each other. Lets remain positive and be thankful for where we are in the league. Most of us accepted we would be a mid table team this season with the state we ended up in from the end of last year.
