Home brew

Thu Feb 16, 2012 7:57 pm

After reading a message on here last week i decided to try my hand at home brewing.

Well I fermented in a fermenting bucket for 6 days and just transfered to a barrel.
Had a little taste after transfering and it is already tasting great,

2-3 weeks time and i should have 40 pints of lovely beer

Think i might get some more ingredients this weekend and fill the fermenting bucket again
to ensure there is always plenty of beer available.

good luck crash -

these are the main things you have to look out for

1. totally clean everything - get the baby sterlising tabs from asda - dead cheap
2. try to get some measuring spoons - when you add your sugar to the bottles - too much sugar (i.e. more than 5ml) will give you beer that just fizzes over when you open the bottle - and that'll disturb the sediment and make it proper rough.
3. too late this time, but i usually give the beer in the fermentation bin about 9-10 days - this means the yeast has definitely finished primary fermentation - and will limit the amount of fizz you get in the bottles.
4. been adding hop pellets to my last few brews - makes it even better .....
