I was talking to someone close to Adam Matthews today and was told that both Arsenal and Fulham have made enquiries to Celtic Football Club about signing Adam.
Apparently the story is that both clubs are very interested and also Celtic are willing to do business if the price is right, the source said that both are willing to at least double his wages.
Hearing this today had me feeling mixed emotions, happy in the sense that Adam would be progressing his career at either club if the move became reality and also anger at City's inability to get Adam tied up to a new contract last season.
Opinions.

He would have thrived here under Malky's management, Good luck in whatever he decides to do.

Yeah, I'm not keen to slag Jones now he's gone because I want to focus on Mackay's reign but the way Jones treated Matthews still makes my blood boil now.

I'm really Happy for Adam as he deserves it as he is a Top Professional on and off the Pitch who would always give us all and was very good with the fans. But I just can't get over the fact That Adam was linked with a move from us to Man Utd where we could have cashed up on him but stayed on and showed how important he was on our way to the Play off Final. But the ways in which he was scapegoated in the defeat to Ipswich were he again put in 100% and never gave up makes me really upset as he never had a chance after that.

Sorry that has to be one of D. Jones massive failings or a gross mis judgement of Matthews talent either way we lost a good player.

That dave jones is a shrewd business man

Totally agree Bowmonster, with Malky as Matthews manager, we would of seen the best of him.

If this happens dave jones will be even more disliked by us

Still winds me up Annis how moans treated him

Even now Jones the knob gets under my skin with his rantings regarding Whittingham. He is a bitter twisted fool who let one of our brightest talents walk aay for feck all
Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:45 pm
As far as misery jones goes - why keep mathews when he can get a brown envelope for every loan deal or agent signing he can get
Mathews, mcCormack, magennis, -all shut out by DJ
I think he may not get a job this season as the football world adjusts to less money and clubs from championship down look to youth and development.

I was talking to a celtic fan the other day who was very impressed by the performances put in by Adam.
Although he like Joe, Adam has really been the one that has caught his eye.
Shame Jones couldn't see the potential of the boy so City lose out again ::evil
Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:55 pm
Dave jones never played him for whatever reason but also the board never offered him the contract he wanted and let him leave for FREE everyone seem to forget its not the manager who PAYS THESE PLAYERS on there contracts
Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:10 pm
Its just my opinion, but Matthews was the 5th best fullback at the club last year and you couldn't blame them for offering him a contract in line with that position. If he wanted to stay, he could have, but he left for the money, and we can't blame him for that either.
He may go on to be a Premier league player, but i'm still not convinced. Not as good as Gunter was at the same age, and he has only really made it at Championship level.

we never knew how good matthews was because jones wouldnt play him !!! he made one mistake and jones showed his man management skills by publicly slating him-disgraceful to do that to a young developing talent
then brought him on in injury time when we were 3-0 down against reading
good luck to the boy, i always rated him
Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:44 pm
dave jones has got less people skills, than a P.E teacher,
he treated some of our players like naughty school boys, totally ruined this club, and turned the team into a complacent slacksure , bottle merchant disaster
Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:44 pm
Agree with nucs, jones was a tw*t to the kid

At last someone giving on honest sensible well thought out view. Not through rose tinted and "anti-Dave Jones" glasses. Adam Matthews showed promise while with us and nothing more than that. Yet to show that he has what it takes to hold down a regular first team place. Don't know if he is a first choice at Celtic at the moment but he certainly wasn't at the start of the season. Time will tell.

Didn't we sign his replacement Taylor on a free.
Some people seem to want to live in the past.
I still cant understand why we sold Alan Durban and brought in and old Player John Charles.
Then theres graham Moore why did we let him go so cheap.
We live in the world of the "out of contract player".
I don't give a toss about adam matthews.

He is an attacking fullback and suited to four five one, Malky would have loved to have had him, and I reckon would have brought him on no end.
Never mind onwards and upwards and good luck to Adam!

Fairplay I'm sick of everyone slating jones, he did amazing job for us people don't remember he kept us up when times was hard where's the respect! Makes me sick, he took us FA cup final! 2 consecutive play off places! People say he bottled it! Its jones fault! NO he don't play on the pitch the players do!! You think he force fed players to drink last season? Forcced chopra to gamble now! Their grown men! But jones is gone I for one respect him for what he did for us, and I'm 100% behind malkay he's doing amazing so far but never forget what jones did for us

jones was responsible for cardiff citys most successful years no doubt,he didnt force the boys to f**k up off the pitch of course not but he failed to disipline them accordingly, he mismanaged the team during the period when we were so close to the jackpot, therefore he was effectively responsible for the overall failings and had to go

Unbelievable!
Jones' biggest blunder, and turned me from a pro Jones fan to a Jones out fan! Fancy naming, blaming and shaming a kid for scoring an own goal, then hardly playing him again. Look at him now, being lauded once again by the Prem. If only Malky got here sooner.

I'm absolutely delighted for Adam if he gets a move to the PL as surely that would be a terrific move for both him and the Wales national team.
Like many others have said Adam would have been a given every chance with MM as in my opinion he has the potential to be the best attacking fullback to come through the ranks at Cardiff since Delaney and Gunter. Sadly he had to leave because the previous manager saw no value in youth as he much preferred to take older, experienced and injured players mixed with a large portion of pissheads being paid to fortune than support the kids.
And he called us buffons it beggers belief.
But good luck to Adam wherever his career takes him.

regardless of what views you have on this issue and if you were anti jones or pro jones to publicly castigate matthews for one mistake was despicable behaviour by jones and no wonder the boys form went down the toilet.
Jones's famous dust ourselves down and go again comment would have been more apt for the situation but then again no one can dispute that jones did not have any faith in younger players.

Much better in attack than defence. Can see him as a wide right midfielder in the end

It seems everybody bar moans could see the potential of Adam. Very happy for the lad it will boost his confidence no end. Shame Cardiff City as a club have lost out in the financial stakes.
