When I was in Canada in 2010 I saw a woman almost get assaulted by a man and woman who were screamIng blue murder at her for smoking in her Chevy whilst her two toddlers sat in back seat. A police officer turned up and the woman was given a ticket and the man and woman were congratulated for bringing the "serious offence" as the officer called it to his attention.

Me and wife were pretty speechless whilst the Canadians we were with we're like yeah that happens all the time.

Smoking in vehicles should be prohibited if you carry memebers of public and children. Other than that it should be up to drivers discretion in my opinion.

In reality the govt should ban smoking full stop due to the dangers etc.

However they wont as they get too much tax revenue from it.

I dont smoke and hate it, but the ban goes too far. If people are inconsiderate enough
to their kids to smoke in the car then you can bet your life that their house will be
stinking of cigarettes, and the kids will be breathing it in every day. It will probably
lead to more road crashes as they pull over here there and everywhere for their
nicotine hit!!

Just a thought but if it is illegal to use your mobile phone in the car due to lack of concentration then surely it should be the same for smoking? I've seen people rolling cigarettes whilst driving with their elbows in the past. And what happens if the end falls off and lands between your legs (seen that happen too, was actually quite funny to begin with, then it started to burn him and we were swerving all over the place!) you again lose concentration to a degree which far exceeds talking on a phone. I know the government want to ban it to save the kids but in my opinion there are also a lot more reasons to ban it too.

You've got to feel sorry for the kids. They put clean clothes on them, make sure they've washed and brushed etc, then they take them to school sticking of fags. If you smoke then you can't smell it, but trust me, it stinks. My brother and sister-inlaw smoke and if I go in their house for only 10 mins my clothes stink, even if they weren't smoking while I was there.

I do find it amazing how you can smoke whilst driving yet you can't use a mobile. Both are hand to mouth, plus when you consider people dropping their fags on the floor and then rooting around for them whilst going at 70 plus. Rolling up even whilst driving, totally mad.

No one polices' smoking anyway. It's an offence to smoke in company vehicles yet you see them doing it all the time. I've never known of one person to be pulled over for it though. Also the number of council workers you see smoking in their vehicles is crazy. You are not going to tell me that the councils don't know. I'd know if someone had smoked in my car.

And not B4 time. Being an Ex smoker I must be one of the worst Anti smokers going. The amount of time I've seen people in there cars franticly trying to put out the end of there fag thats just dropped on there lap I dont know, and every day you see them fagging it with there kids inside. Sadly mate mines gone the other way, my missus only has to look at it and the bloody thing goes off!! Signs of getting older and not getting enough!!

I'm an ex-smoker and can't stand the smell of smoke, but if i get into someones car and they decide to have a fag thats entirely up to them as its their bloody car....just like in my car, my smoker mates aren't allowed a fag until we get out.......as for banning it due to kids in car etc, maybe it should come under driving with undue care and attention and deal with them that way, but end of the day its their car and they'll do what they like anyway.

Trouble with that is we'll have to ban the likes of people messing around with their radio or using their satellite navigation, hell it may come to a point you'll be banned from talking to the passages as that's all distracting.

As a drinker and a smoker, a hetrosexual (lesbians are good, the nice ones not the fat horrible ones you have in UK) my days are numbered. Oh, I've been done for 100.2 mph on the M40, a hefty fine and the "you naughty boy" got away with doing 135+ on Cray straight whilst having a Benson.

In my opinion, the f*cking doctors should to stick to doing what they paid to do, hang around chatting and trying to pull nurses when people are dying. If the NHS did health care, they'd be run out of Africa. Without a doubt total shit, I've had far better free health care in numerous countries where it is actually free rather than paying 12% of your earnings. NHS stick it.

On the health issue, we find that one minute the government are telling us what to eat, not to drink or smoke etc. Then in the next breath they are whinging about us living too long. They should be giving fags and booze away, that would solve the pension crisis.

On the issue of choice though. Fair enough you smoke, that is your choice. I can respect that you want to smoke and that is entirely your choice. Who am I to tell you what to do!.

I can't stand the smell of it, it stinks and I don't want my clothes to smell like a tramps vest. Simple as that. Unfortunately there are some smokers who beleive because they smoke they have a God given right to force everyone around them to smoke as well. It's as if I went in to a resturant and decided because I like brown sauce on my food I'd go around giving a dollop on everyone else's food. Don't ask if they like a bit of brown, just splash it on.
Then I'll get out my favourite cheap smelly aftershave and I'll spray people walking in and out the building. I'll just stand in the doorway and spray them. I won't ask, I'll just do it.

There was a smoker on the panel on Question time last night when they talked about this issue. When they asked him about smoking in the car with his kids in the back, he said "They are my kids, I'll do what I want". Oh okay, here you go son, here's some breathing problems for you, and a touch of glue ear! Doesn't that arsehole realise that kids are not his pets, they are individual people. What a complete and utter selfish c***!
