Reading v Cardiff – Chat with Home fans

Mon Nov 14, 2011 12:42 pm

A warm hello to all Cardiff fans,

Just to let you know I've done a big match preview on the Reading v Cardiff City game from the Reading perspective, and fullest respect shown for Cardiff with detailed information produced equally for both sets of fans, well, more on Cardiff than Reading to be honest – guaranteed absolutely no ‘wum-ing’ here, and it would be interesting to have any feedback from you guys. It's on our Reading FC specialist fans' site at:

http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9217003/1

- I'd love to re-produce some of your short comments here onto our own page, especially as to how you view the game, thoughts on your own team (believe me, does interest us!), and opinions of Reading (if reproducible!) and we will always credit your user name and your forum for any little quote ... so please pop in for a second for a quick browse! Comments tend to pick up as we approach match day, and we generally pass 100 posts by end of match day itself. I’ll also tell our members too where to find this thread if you start replying !

This is what Jobi McAnuff says about facing his old team again in the Reading Evening Post (Jonny Fordham):

Jobi McAnuff has set his sights on Cardiff City again after enjoying one of the highlights of his career playing against his former club. The Reading captain sealed his side’s place in last season’s Championship play-off final by jinking through midfield to score the final goal of a 3-0 win in Wales.

“I watched that goal back a couple of times towards the end of last year,” said McAnuff. “But after the play-offs I shoved that to the back of my memory to try to crack on this year. That was definitely one of the highlights of my career. It was a great night and I thought the whole performance from everyone was exceptional.”

Fourth-placed Cardiff are on track to make the play-offs for the third season in a row. And McAnuff, who turned 30 last week, has a lot of time for their new manager Malky Mackay, his old Watford coach. He said: “I know Malky well and Cardiff are going along nicely at the moment. He’s gone in and changed a few things around and it’s not easy going into a new club and getting your stamp on the team straight away. But if we can get a couple of wins on the bounce we can shoot right up there. For us, the key is the home wins and that takes a little bit of pressure off things when you go away from home.”

Royals’ 2-2 draw at Cardiff in the league last season ended with an on-the-pitch brawl and Mikele Leigertwood received a three-game ban following a bust-up with Michael Chopra. However, Cardiff striker Craig Bellamy escaped a fine from the Football Association of Wales for manhandling Andy Griffin and throwing a water bottle at Simon Church. Seven of the 11 yellow cards brandished in the four meetings between the clubs last season were shown to Brian McDermott’s men, but McAnuff expects a less physical battle at Madejski Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

He added: “The main protagonists are no longer there. I think it will be just a normal game. We’re all looking forward to it after the break.”

Hi daibO

Just read your royalsrendezvous page....good opinions expressed.

Jobi McAnuff mirrored the views of some of our fans by inferring that some of our players were arrogant and combative last season in the Play offs.

I for one am glad to see the back of these 'big time Charlie's' and am pleased that Malkay has, in a short space of time, put together a TEAM of hard working, Industrious players, who HOPEFULLY ;) will come to your stadium on Saturday and provide you with a much stiffer contest than last season.

As far as the result goes I would not try to predict ANY results in the Championship this season (but am extremely confident that we will beat you 5-0) :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Thanks Skybluebird - and yeah, it seems that Malky is commanding great respect from around the Championship now; and that's a nice run of results coming together. You'll see from our predictions that we're uneasy about this game, could go any way ...

A reminder of the Match thread - http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/topic/9217003/1 - we've now got a "Ref Check" on too - heill be Darren Sheldrake from Surrey.

We've also got a special place for away fans to write - http://royalsrendezvous.co.uk/forum/3832070 , without even signing up - but good behaviour please !!

And from Wales Online - Noel Hunt is full of respect for Cardiff

Reading striker Noel Hunt has warned team-mates: “Cardiff City are far more dangerous under Malky Mackay,” writes Terry Phillips. Republic of Ireland international Hunt started in both legs of last seasons Championship play-off semi-final against the Bluebirds when Reading stormed to a 3-0 win. Waterford-born Hunt, 27, is in Reading’s squad for this Saturday’s Championship clash with Cardiff at the Madejski Stadium and says:
“They are more of a team now than they were last season. Cardiff are a totally different side because they don’t have as many loanees. Dave Jones did an incredible job to get them playing like a team with all the loan players, but this time they are far more together and stronger than last season.”

This Wales Online site has good articles. Who knew that Brian McDermott (Reading manager) was a Cardiff City player, made over 50 appearances and scored 8 goals?? So, according to this site Brian thinks: "Reading boss Brian McDermott insists Malky Mackay is right man to lead Cardiff City into top flight" .... big article, well worth the read, focusses more on Cardiff than Reading:
