Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has found his playing resources stretched
Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay admits he has been frustrated by his failure to add players to his squad.

Since the August transfer window closed, Mackay has sought to bolster his squad with loan signings.

But there have been no new arrivals so far and a spate of new injuries after last week's back-to-back games with Leicester has increased the urgency.

"It's immediately trying to get a couple of bodies in the door to help the short term," Mackay said.

"[We were] waiting on the Premiership clubs, on their thoughts on what they were going to do with their squads and when they were going to let that player out... but the last two days has changed that focus.

"Please believe me there's an awful lot of 'phone calls gone in in the last 10 days about players coming to the club.

"It's something we're working on hard and it's not always about us not willing to pay money, there is a lot of factors involved in it.

"It's quite a small market we're fishing in right now, along with a lot of other clubs.

"We had a couple of people that we were looking at in terms of coming out for a three-month period, or even trying to get them out for the season."

Cardiff host Championship leaders Southampton on Wednesday night and will be missing both Robert Earnshaw (thigh strain) and Rudy Gestede (hamstring strain), leaving Mackay short of strikers.

Captain Mark Hudson and Craig Conway both suffered ankle injuries in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Leicester and will face late fitness tests.

Lee Naylor has a tight calf, while fellow left-back Andrew Taylor is still out with a hamstring injury.

Central defenders Ben Turner - who still hasn't played for Cardiff since joining from Coventry last month - and Dekel Keinan will train on Tuesday morning after recovering from injuries and may be added to the squad to face the Saints.

Last season former Cardiff boss Dave Jones had seven loan signings in his squad, who were part of the 12 players that left the Welsh club when Jones' six-year tenure ended in May.

Jones has since told BBC Sport Wales that the funds were not there to sign players on permanent deals and it seems as though Mackay may have to go down a similar route for the foreseeable future.

Cardiff did have Malaysia striker Safee Sali on a 10-day trial recently but he has now returned to train with Indonesian club Pelita Jaya and the Malay national side - although with a view to returning to south Wales at some point in the future.

I've not spoken out against the Malaysians yet but they need to know this club is ours and NOT their toy.

I find it difficult to understand why we are unable to get someone in on emergency loan etc.. even if for 1 month etc..
