Does anyone else remember Woodies in it's prime?

Sun Sep 25, 2011 10:32 am

Late 1990s.

I thought it went down hill way before it closed.

But during the late 1990s it was the best!

The sales were also great.

Living in London now, but Woodies in it's prime was up there with any store in the UK.

But it really went down hill when the store got bigger and the stock went to shit.

Where do people shop now?

Loved that store.
Bought my first pair of Chipie jeans there in 1990, then proceeded to blow my wages between there and John Anthonys in Bristol for the next few years :)

used to shop in woodies before it went downhill, always felt like the sales staff were eyeing you up when you went in there though..seeing if you could afford the clobber!

The store went down hill when a lot of the old school staff left.

Replaced by a bunch of NEXT wearing fucktards.

Flannels was still around the last time I was in Cardiff.

John Anthony Bristol ,I was up Selfridges in London last Xmas & bought a CP Balaclava  Don't ask me why cos I ain't got a clue ,just had to have it.

I remember Ray the owner telling me in the end it sold 80% of the kit in the January sales so he told me also I know the old manager off Bristol branch.

The Great days of woodies were 85-90 in my book. the early Emporio Armani,RL,Radio,Nigel Cabourne and Si days.

I thought it closed just before Xmas?

And the staff had no idea it was closing.

That's what puts me off going in there.

used to love shopping in woodies as due to me still being a schoolkid at the time, they would let you put a deposit down on an item of clothing and then come back and pay it off a week or later. Also, after shopping there for a while, they just used to knock about 10% off the price when you came to pay as they knew you were a regular, happy days !
