A Fitting Tribute for Mikey Dye

Thu Sep 08, 2011 1:24 pm

Following the England v Wales international my feelings were stunned by the tragic news of Mikey Dye's death. No-one should leave home and loved ones to go to a football match and not return. Whilst I never knew Mikey personally I'm sure that over the years we must have stood together on the terracing at away games whilst supporting City.

The loss and grief suffered by Nathalie and the children must be indescribable and total. My sincere condolences are yours. Furthermore, the heartfelt and immediate outpouring of lovely tributes to, 'Ely Trendy,' can not be bought with money but rather can only come from those whose lives were touched by this generous man.

Yes, we have all done things in our youth that we'd rather we'd not done; but the mark of maturity a person possesses is that we learn from them. That both the Daily Mail and The Sun have chosen at this awful, grief-stricken time to seek to assassinate the character of Mikey is sickening beyond belief.

I am fully behind the moves by Gwyn regarding setting up a collection for Mikey's family; it is a tangible expression of love at such a desperate time and I will contribute on Saturday.

That Britain's 21stC society is sick is obviously clear. That we live in a land where such disgraceful journalism (sic) is published as we have witnessed these last few days, in both the Daily Mail and The Sun, is simply wrong.

I include the web-links to the two articles not to give credence to their gutter-reporting but rather to ask you to complain to the Press Complaints' Commission over them and you will need those web-addresses for your complaint. Let our responses be such that this is never allowed to happen again in the British press. The PCC site is as follows:

http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/form.html

You can make a complaint on the issue of: "Intrusion into grief or shock ie In cases involving personal grief or shock, enquiries and approaches must be made with sympathy and discretion and publication handled sensitively."

This, both newspapers failed to do. It was Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) who said, "He who is silent seems to consent." Action is needed. Please take just 10 minutes of your time to make two complaints about theses two articles.

Nathalie and children you are in my prayers.
RIP Mikey.
