Record Number of International City Call ups

Thu Sep 01, 2011 3:41 pm

From the official site...I think it gives a very good indication as to the quality of our squad etc etc

No fewer than ten Cardiff City players are on their travels at present because of International call-ups - and that is a record for Cardiff City Football Club.
Our situation is reminiscent of the 1925/26 season when there were seventeen recent or current Internationals from Wales, Scotland and Ireland on our playing staff. However, they were not all selected for international duty at the same time, making this recent group of players unique.
WHO'S GONE WHERE?
Robert Earnshaw and Darcy Blake have not had to go too far - they are with the Wales squad at our Vale of Glamorgan training-base for the European Championship qualifiers against Montenegro at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, followed by the game against England at Wembley on Tuesday.
David Marshall, Kenny Miller and Don Cowie are north of the Border with Scotland for the qualifiers against the Czech Republic at Hampden Park on Saturday and again against Lithuania on Tuesday.
Aron Gunnarsson meanwhile is with Iceland for their matches against Norway in Oslo on Friday, followed by their home game against Cyprus in Reykjavik on Tuesday. The twenty-two year-old midfielder picked up an injury against Bristol City towards the start of August, but has found fitness again and could feature for his country. Dekel Keinan is in Israel's squad for their home match against Greece in Tel Aviv on Friday before the away game against Croatia on Tuesday in Zagreb.
As for our younger players, Filip Kiss is with Slovakia Under-21s for Tuesday's match against Kazakhstan in Almaty, while Joe Mason is with the Republic of Ireland Under-21s for Thursday evening's home game against Hungary at Sligo. The Irish youngsters then travel to Turkey on Tuesday for their fixture in Manisa.
But perhaps the most exotic call-up involves Nathaniel Jarvis who has been asked to link up with Antigua & Barbuda's senior squad. They face Curacao on Friday and the U.S. Virgin Islands a few days later, both those games in Antigua. Whether Nat travels on this occasion is uncertain, though if not, he is expected to again for the next round of international fixtures in October.
