Peter Whittingham, Cardiff City legend?

Fri Aug 26, 2011 10:34 am

With the announcment of Whitts' signing a new contract, (Which in my opinion is fantastic news, and something we needed to do to protect what is probably the clubs most valuable asset on the playing staff)....

Anyway it got me thinking how many of you would consider him as a city legend? If not yet then maybe in the next few seasons.
As few players IF ANY in the last 4 or 5 seasons have shown as much commitment to the club as twinkle toes Pete.

Not to mention his professionalism, talent and temperament! An example of all these attributes were evident during the Dave Jones era (I am not having a go), Whitts was pushed from pillar to post and never complained, rarely failed to perform, hardly ever picks up injuries and imo works hard for the Cardiff city cause.

For all these reasons I think Whitts is well on the way to becoming...if not already a Cardiff City legend!!

(I just wish he had a song fitting his standing within the club) :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I totally agree with you, he doesn't get the appreciation he deserves from the crowd, we need to sort it out for him

In any other team whitts would be a fans favourite.

legend is extreme, i dont give that status to anybody less than maybe 10 years with a club or 100 goals, he is close but not yet

He's one of the most naturally gifted players to ever grace a city shirt no question about it,

many fans were not bothered whether he got sold or stayed pre season. Another player I was sad to see go
was michael chopra under MM he would of been a changed man, it would of kicked him into gear
and got the best out of him

good post mate, i've been thinking the same all morning. Recently our players who have been given hero status like bothroyd, ledley, chops have been quick to jump ship when the opportunity has arisen, but whitts who doesn't get nowhere near the appreciation he deserves has never grumbled or used his agent to rock the boat. for me, in terms of natural talent he is far better than any of these players and i would say even more gifted than bellamy. the problem with whitts has always been maximising his ability. a change of manager seems to be just what he needed and he seems to be relishing his new role in the team and i think there will be a lot more to come from him. :ayatollah:

For those who play Football Manager, he would be in the favoured personnel bracket. :D

Wouldnt class him as a legend but certainly massively underrated. It seems because he doesnt run around like a headless chicken or foul the opposition with stupid tackles some dont rate him. Like a thread about a month ago people saying they would drive him to forest/norwich for 1m

Great player and has been for the paste 2 seasons as well, delighted he has signed :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'd say he's underrated aswell. He's my favourite player anyway, has been since the season he joined. Definately deserves more attention. :ayatollah:

As I have just stated in a previous post, I think the term "Legend" is just tossed about by some city fans who have no idea of the concept of the word.

IMO, Whitts is a very good player, and an assett to the club, no where near a Legend yet, give him a couple of years.

Footballers I would class as Legends: -

Carragher - Liverpool
G Neville - Man Utd
Gerrard - Liverpool
Terry - Chelsea
Giggs - Man Utd

Players who are 100% committed to the club they love and would die for the shirt.

Legend status to me is reserved for players after their retirement and given for their un-stinted loyalty and commitment to the club, the likes of Dwyer, Murray, Stitfall and Brian Clark who returned to the club when he had the opportunity at the same time to return to his boyhood team Bristol City.

Whittingham to me oozes class and shown his commitment, if he is still here in 5 years or more he may be afforded that status .....but not yet

I wouldnt say he's a legend, but certainly one the best players weve had over the years thats stayed for more than 2 seasons. He'll win us points on his own this season. Must keep till he retires :ayatollah:

his passing is sublime at times and has been excellent under malky,Tell you something aswell all last season when Jones was bumbling about playing whitts holding mid, defensive mid or on the wing the boy never moaned, "tweeted", or went anywhere near a casino or night club.hull city away last season whitts was forced to play a defensive role and played out of his skin in an unfamilar role and got absolutely zero credit for it and actually got flak for not clapping the fans at the end.
hes a credit to the club and im so glad hes going to be a cardiff city player during the next couple of seasons
