BIG NEWS FOLKS - SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 to stop producing!

Big, big news, folks! A court up in the Netherlands has ruled that Samsung Mobile’s Galaxy S and Galaxy S II smartphone infringe upon at least three of Apple’s patents; sales and marketing of the Galaxy S II phone have been ordered to be shut down in over 30 European countries!



Apple filed a patent lawsuit against Samsung for their Galaxy series of smartphones and tablets way back in April. Cupertino mentioned an exhaustive list of patents which they believed were being infringed upon by the folks in Seoul; this list included both hardware and software-based patent infringements. Samsung later counter-sued Apple.

The news comes directly from the court’s website where a press release was published just a few minutes ago. According to the press release, the judge of the court in The Hague (seat of the Dutch government and Supreme Court) has prohibited the sales and marketing of three smartphones by Samsung Mobile, namely: the Galaxy S, its underpowered variant Galaxy Ace and the popular Galaxy S II.



All three phones are in violation of Apple Inc. EP 2058868, EP 2098948, EP 1964022 (among others) based on “slavish” imitation. We were honestly expecting these violations to revolve more around the Galaxy smartphones’ hardware than their software because of the strikingly similar looks of the Galaxy S with the iPhone 3GS.

The judge of the court in The Hague today ruled in summary proceedings against Apple Samsung. The judge prohibited the marketing of Samsung smartphones Galaxy S, S II and Ace for violation of Apple Inc. EP 2,058,868. The judge points off debts based on EP 2098948, EP 1964022, designs, copyrights and slavish (style) imitation.

EP 2058868 is related to the method of scrolling and browsing gallery, EP 2098948 is based on how a “flag” is recorded upon multiple screen taps (used on devices based on Android 2.3.x) and lastly, EP 1964022 is related to how phones are unlocked with a swiping action.

The judge has also ruled that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 10.1v also infringe some patents, details which are expected to emerge later on. Samsung now has only three weeks to go before the ban is implemented.

Good artists copy, great artists steal. Apple stole the GUI from Xerox and are now claiming Samsung are stealing from them. The galaxy S2 looks nothing like an iPhone. What's next, Mercedes sueing all car makes for a vehicle powered by an engine?

So apple are buying out all the competition to make people buy the extremely bad and limited iPhone? i'm buying a blackberry.

And apple take the cake with new models every week, there will be at least six iPhone5's

Yeah but at least you can update via iTunes, it's gives a lot of the extras.
I'm still on 3GS and happy with it.

clearly anti apple lol, how many blackberrys have come out in the last year? apple haven't released a phone for over a year and theres still no date for the next one so to say they have one a week is a joke! ive also never seen a good blackberry, everyone i know who has one has so many complaints, they just like BBM. if i didn't have an iphone, i would go HTC without a doubt.

The thing is, no one says they want a generic mp3 player, they want an iPod. Apple have had possibly the best marketIng ever. Even the iPad, their iOS is so easy to use my 80 year old uncle has an iPad and I never get the phone call from him that I get from other people in my family about their phones/pc's. For blackberry to sell their tablet on the basis it's got flash is terrible marketing afaik, they should be pushing all the features, not just the one that apple don't have.

As far as I am aware apple will release a budget iPhone4 on Sept 7th (not sure of name) which will come more affordable and only have an 8GB memory. Then at the end of Sept the iPhone 5 will be introduced which will be running the same A5 dual processor as what's in the iPad 2 - so expect a damn good phone. It is rumoured that the iPhone 5 will cost between £500 -£610 to buy outright depending on whether you go for the 32gb or the 64gb ....

Probably yeah, but will still come with a hefty initial upgrade fee as well!

When I was a kid the only "apples and blackberries" I knew were the ones you got from ther greengrocer!!!
