RESPONSE BY BBC Radio WALES - FAIR PLAY

Mon Aug 15, 2011 1:04 pm

Guys i know we missed out on commentary yesterday when bbc 0117 on sky did not give commentary .

Here is the response i got today - fair play to the guy :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your email about Cardiff City v Bristol City and I'm sorry
that you were unable to hear the match. I'd like to explain how we
decided where to broadcast the match.

Over the summer we have made changes to the version of BBC Radio Wales
you hear on digital TV and radio. Up until now if you listened to the
station on Digital TV and Radio anywhere in Wales you would have
automatically heard a south east Wales version of the station (and
therefore on matchdays, Cardiff City). As a national station it was
important that we rectified this. Therefore, we now broadcast a national
version on the station on Digital TV and Radio, which matches our
service on AM.

Our football service is predominantly meant to be a localised service
for FM listeners. Taking into account the number of teams we cover - and
what rights we have - we will need to take a decision on a game by game
basis which, if any, games are broadcast on AM, Digital TV and Radio.
However, given this summer's changes, we should have publicised the
decision to put the Bristol City game on just south east Wales FM more
clearly in advance. For this we apologise.

I'm pleased to say that Wednesday's game with Brighton and Hove Albion
will be broadcast on all frequencies across Wales. We are currently
looking at other Cardiff City games throughout the autumn and will take
a decision on where those are broadcast those in due course.

Thank you once again for your email and I hope you continue to enjoy
following Cardiff City on BBC Radio Wales.

it might have well said: "swansea are now in the premier league and therefore cardiff will not automaticly get national coverage every time"

although when i couldnt get the game on my tv radio, i didnt think "have city fallen out with radio wales?" so overall quite relieved

I was just about to say the same thing..

This totally stinks of Radio Wales now keeping it's digital platform national instead of it being just focused on South East Wales, incase Jacks start moaning even more than they used to before they got promotion to the premiership.

The Jacks truly belive BBC Wales are biased to the capital, so now there argument would be.. " how come Cardiff games still get priority over Swansea on Radio Wales, even though we are in the premiership and they are only in the championship ? that aint fair, Radio Wales kiss Cardiffs arse, etc etc, booo hooo, booo, hooo ".

Radio Wales really couldn't of made this move look more obvious with the timing of there change of policy, no matter what bull crap reason they come up with.

So your argument is basically that it is unfair that the coverage is now fair and allows the digital service to cover other teams and should go back to being restricted to Cardiff only?

Not really a very strong argument you've got there.
