Any army or ex army on here?

My mate who I haven't seen for ages is out in afghan, and have a postal adress for him. I can send a parcel up to 2k, and just wandered what to send, and if any boys who had been there could help.

Not sure if there are things that you would need, or just some joke stuff would be good...

From a mate i would suggest, some 'goodies' i.e PORN MAG, some comfort chockies, a fav CD maybe and sum updates on his fav sports team, but most important, a nice humourous letter reminding him/her how great things are going to be when they get home... good luck...wish them luck from us too..

Just basic stuff i'd send, I was forever grateful of toiletries and some reading material ie nuts, loaded (but dont send any w*nk mags) as that is frowned upon by Major Disaster and co. of the RMP's

You're a hell of a friend if you're considering sending your mate stuff up to the value of 2k!

Seriously though, I Left the Army in 1989 and all the ideas posted by Supercoops are good ones, especially the letter(s)!
The biggest problem with being on tour is the boredom during downtime, so anything to read is good, or rather than send cd's which can be bulky, you may be able to put media onto a memory stick, although you'll have to consider copyrighted stuff obviously!

Magazines, sweets that won't melt, South Wales Echo's, any City fanzines you can get your hand on, Sports mags of any Sport he likes. Rubix Cube or something similar would be cool.

Blueys are amazing when we are OOA. We love them. Makes your week seriously.

I recommend sending joke/humerous gifts. The kind of random shit that makes you laugh. Best stuff I had posted to me was a set of water pistols, some fancy dress stuff and a blow up sheep in a cardiff city shirt!

Plenty of haribo too! They won't let you send alcohol or aerosols either and will rip open parcels if they think there's some in there!
