IN THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY.... WE'RE SHITE!!

Mon Aug 08, 2011 9:19 am

Only messing.

I'm ecstatic after yesterday. We will NOT come up against a better
midfield than that all season, and we struggled to come to terms with
them in that first 30 mins. But we kept our shape, the defence held
firm mainly because we kept Cowie, Gunnarsson and Conway tucked
in and although Taylor, Nolan and Parker gave them the runaround at
first, the lads came into the game more and more. Gerrard and Hudson
are both competent Centre-Halfs, but I do have reservations about them
as a pairing, but they did do the job yesterday, we kept a clean sheet
and for all the BBC's jizzing in their pants about West Ham, they did NOT
really have many clear goalscoring chances.

I questioned the return of Earnie, still do, but i'll leave it there, he's also
lacking match practice. Miller looked at times like he hasnt kicked a ball
in months, yet STILL came up with that winner. Good vibes about the lad.
Gestede i wasnt sure about, but he certainly made an impact when he came
on, and Mason is going to be a class player

All in all, we obviously won. But the performance was more important to me :?

The TEAM beat West Ham yesterday. They struggled at times, but looked like
they were all ready to give their all for each other, for the Manager, for the
club and for the fans. When Parker and Co beat one blue shirt, there was always
another blue shirt there or thereabouts ready to cover.

Well done lads. Proud of you all :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Worth pointing out that Earnie, Miller and Conway have only had half a pre-season with us. I'm sure they're gonna be deadly when they're on form!

Totally agree, once they are upto speed with the rest of the boys we will see their true worth. Miller and Earnie didn't really click yesterday but how often have they played to gether to have the chance to strike u an understanding. That partnership will work better against some teams than it did yesterday. Rudy did well when he came on - next few weeks will give us an idea of what he is all about The rest of the team worked magic, as units, for each other. It was high tempo at times, attacking and defending as a team.

Not many teams will go to West Ham and win!

Great result.

Feller. Parker, Nolan, Taylor and Noble are a class act. They were bound
to get some joy against us. The longer the game went on, the more
comfortable we looked. Oh and we won, and kept a clean sheet.

I was in the WHU supporters bar before the game with a couple of my WHU mates. The whole place was buzzing and they were really looking forward ot the game and the season. They were mentioning players we can only dream about getting. Looking at their squad its frightening to see how many internationals they have. I left that supporters club with the attitude of limit damagetation. Like lets get this game out of the way and hope it does not do much damage to our confidence.

I dont think I have ever looked at the clock as much as I did at this game. It must have been every 5 minutes or less. The longer it went on the more anxious I got. I worked myself up so much that I convinced myself that they were going to rob us in the last minute. So when it was us who got the winner in the last minutes you can imagine what I was like. Glad the camera was not on me at the time because believe me I would be very embarrassed now.

So after a nights sleep when the emotions have calmed done it is a good time to reflect on the game. I try and keep it simple. First of all we were up against the strongest team in the league without a doubt and on their own patch. They were always going to create chances and go close. I would say they created enough chances for who they were and perhaps should have scored. Perhaps being the operative word here as I think no one would say it was only a question of time before they but the ball in the net.

For us I dont think we stole the game. We got lucky a couple of times with them hitting the post and Whitts clearance of the line. However we forced a couple of good saves from their keeper and when Rudy came on looked like the team that was going to score. As you know we did score to win the game. My WHU mate texted me with the words "You jammy bastards, daylight robbery". I dont think so, we kept ourselves in the game, created our chance and took it.

Up against the best team on their own patch and we won. Are we outstanding, good, average, below par or SHITE. Well after yesterday we can cross off the SHITE and below par options. Next up is one of the weakest teams in the league on our own patch. Lets hope after this game we can remove one or two more options.

If we had luck yesterday then it was due to making our own, something which never happened under DJ. It was great seeing Malky on the sidelines kicking every ball and reminding the players of their own and team responsibilites rather than standing there with his hands in his pockets which the ship go down.

One last point, isn't it odd that suddenly David Marshall looks like and class act (my MoM) whilst Rob Green let the ball fly through both hands for us to nick the game?

Wouldn't have anything to do with West Ham nicking our underachiving goalkeeping coach? ;)

Must've been that elbow op he had at the end of the season. Given him bionic arms or something!

Earnie has gone through his whole career without being able to control the ball and fail to pass to his team mates, cant see him starting now

I was pleased an comforted by the performance. Before we scored the winner, I was thinking that even if we ended up losing 1-0 it was a good performance. We deserved a point certainly, and the win was a bonus.

I'm not sure if Earnie and Miller together is a long term option - we could do with a mobile target man to go with one or the other, (unless we play 433). Its a big ask for Gestede or Mason to take up that role but you never know.

An encouraging performance - a couple of decent loan signings and we might be dreaming again.....
