Aron Gunnarsson Latest

Cardiff City are closing in on Icelandic international Aron Gunnarsson – and a deal could be struck within 48 hours.

Gunnarsson’s agent Jerry de Koning said: “There are many clubs who want to sign Aron and Cardiff City are among the favourites.

“Nothing has been finalised yet, but a deal should be completed within the next 24 to 48 hours. The main factor to be finalised is a compensation payment to Coventry City.

“Cardiff City have a good chance of signing Aron.”


The Sky Blues are due compensation because 22-year-old Gunnarsson has been with the Championship club for three years and is aged under 24. Gunnarsson is, though, a free agent and keen to sort out his future.

His agent has been negotiating with a number of clubs and says: “Coventry offered Aron a new deal, but that didn’t meet with what we think he is worth.

“There has been a lot of interest from big clubs in big leagues. A lot of clubs in the Championship enquired, one or two in the Premiership plus some in Germany and Holland. “We have been weighing up our options.”

Last night the Bluebirds confirmed the signing of Middlesbrough left-back Andrew Taylor, after he completed his medical at the club.

Taylor joins on a free transfer as he is out of contract at Boro and aged 24.

Will be another good addition to our squad and can play in centre midfield where we are still light on numbers. Notice how Mackay is building a squad of players who are proven at Championship level, unlike last season and even before that where Dave Jones was always keen on bringing in a big name signing which usually ended up with them doing nothing for us, Bellamy and Hasselbaink apart.

It worked for Norwich and QPR last season where they had a couple of decent players but mostly a squad of grafters capable of grinding out a result when needed, hopefully we'll have some of the same success this season. Even if we finish top 10 I think we can say this season has been a result and it's all about Mackay getting the playing squad and backroom staff right which all takes time.

i think we will be capable of promotion next season but it's very difficult to say how quickly the team will gel and how good the other teams in the league will be despite them spending so much money - Leicester for example.
instead of the big name has been signings, we are getting proven championship players like what was said above ^.
be very interesting to see how we do this season but it's really exciting with all these potential signings who we know will work their socks off.

Totally agree with what everyone has said so far, if we get gunnarsson the team will really start to take shape, mm is doing a fantastic job so far and lets hope it continues with a couple of strikers and a few more midfielders to add depth and we're good to go

Put it this way, with Gunnarsson and Cowie in our midfield, NOBODY is going
for a stroll through it. Both solid players, both good engines and both good
footballers

Gunnarsson looks a very good player at this level! Great signing if we can bring him in!

Have to say that I don't know too much about this kid other than he's about 5ft tall and has a throw in that rivals Rory Delap. Can't say it's an exciting signing but look where they have got us before. Would be nice though to see Malky go out and spend abit of money on a real quality player.
