Cardiff seek to head off Blackpool and Rangers with £2m bid for Goodwillie

Cardiff City raised the stakes in the race for David Goodwillie by tabling a package worth in excess of £2million - but Rangers are not ready to give up on their bid to sign the Dundee United striker.
It's believed the Tannadice club are now close to agreeing terms for the sale of their star asset after Cardiff put forward a new offer containing various add-on supplements.
The Welsh club were reacting to renewed interest from Championship rivals Blackpool, whose chairman, Karl Oyston, made a fresh bid to United counterpart Stephen Thompson on Thursday.
Rangers had a £1m-plus offer rejected earlier this week and owner Craig Whyte has stated he feels the £2m tag they were quoted for Scotland's current Young Player of the Year on June 20 is excessive.
It's understood, however, that the SPL champions are still keeping a close eye on developments as they plot their next move.
Goodwillie's situation is complicated by the rape charge he is currently facing, with the next step in the legal process having an obvious impact on his footballing future.
United chairman Thompson last night declined to discuss any details of the latest transfer developments but did say: 'Discussions are ongoing and we are comfortable with the way things are developing.'
Cardiff have already captured Craig Conway from United despite interest from Rangers, and Tannadice boss Peter Houston believes Goodwillie would be better served by following the winger's lead.

Will never sign for Cardiff IMO.
We're being used to get other clubs interested.
