" SERIOUS QUESTION FOR US ALL AS FANS ? "

Wed Jun 29, 2011 3:19 pm

I think its obvious now that the players read these boards, in the case
of Chopra and Bothroyd, its now obvious that some of the abuse they
had been getting affected them, pissed them off. We are not all of us
thick-skinned, thats just a fact of life, some people react badly to being
called a cunnt, tw*t, wanker, virus, scum etc etc etc etc.

We pay our money, its a free country, we are all entitled to our opinions.

But if you thought for one minute that giving a player foul-mouthed abuse
on here would lead to him and his mates in the dressing room closing ranks
and thinking 'f**k the fans if thats how they want to be', if you thought it
could affect performances on the pitch....

would you blame them? What else can they do? they cant come on here and
have a go back can they??

The players never come over and applaud the fans, we were pissed off and
thought Dave Jones should tell them to do it?

But what if they just never wanted to do it? Cos they thought we were two-faced
fuckers who couldnt wait to get pissed up and slag them off on the Internet?

We have a new era starting, new players, new manager, new backroom boys...

Annis rightly refers to the 80's, the players were OURS, and we were theirs..
they might get the odd slagging off when they were useless, and they often were...
But Cardiff City players and fans had a togetherness, we were like one big nutty
family....

"John Jones", Cardiff City Footballer might be a cunnt, but he's OUR cunnt...

Get it??

A bit like the players "the fans might be hooligans, but they're OUR hooligans..."

We used to have players that would bust a gut for us. Now? can you imagine how
damaging it might be if when a lad has a bad game hes thinking "f**k me i'll
get it on the internet tonight!!"

I'm never slagging our players off again, not for jacks, wurzels, cockneys or
anyone else to see!!!

Chris Burke had a unproductive season yet we did not have a go at him. Why because he tried and appreciated the fans.

Great read. I think most players are no doubt drawn at reading about what people think of them. I know I probably couldn't help myself from reading people's honest opinions of myself. I'd find it hard not to! And the internet is addictive and so is this message-board? And for football players it probably provides an insight into ' average' lives that they maybe don't get so much elsewhere? So I think you are right consideration to your points would be wise and I wouldn't curse players out as if they weren't going to hear or read it.......

:ayatollah: Great post mate. Let's get behind the Manager, the Players and the Team and look forward to a great season ahead. Overall don't expect to finish too high either, it's going to be a hell of a tough league this year and let's give them a chance to gel and fully support Malky. Bluebirds til I die. :ayatollah:

Sad to say but it simply isn;t the 80's any more.

We pay millions on players these days
We have 20k+ fans come on a regular basis
We have a much bigger stadium and are a much bigger club :(

But our players feel they can do what they like and get away with it. But they cant and its not just our Fans that has message boards !! Every Club has them.
But also the story with the players was run in the Echo as well. The question is do you believe what Chopra is saying ?

intresting post taffy, and you are right they cannot retaliate and have a go back,on here or really for that matter anywhere, and yes you are so right some people except critisism better than others, just 1 thing, the first we do indeed pay our money and people only really moan when players dont perform or let themselves down, good post :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Bang on........... everyone one of us has an off day or 2 and we dont "usually" get slagged off for it. In the end we are all only human. Even messy has his off days and he is in a totally different class to the majority of our team. Like the English press these message boards become a way to vent frustration and start attacking our own. Do you notice that the English always under perform at the national level and choke......... slagging off your own players will not have a benefit on the team. If you imagine your boss saying your a useless pile of shit, how many people respond in a poitive manner? most will not, so lets get behind the whole outfit, the team, the back room, the board and each other

I totally agree with Taffy.

These guys are only human.

To put it in a topical manner (with no spinless sarcastic snipin intended!)... Carl gets some criticism in a light hearted manner over the odd update/opinion/rumour and all hell breaks loose.

Meanwhile players are fair game for all manner of abuse.

I just don't get it, what's the difference (apart from about £10k per week)

Re: " SERIOUS QUESTION FOR US ALL AS FANS ? "

Wed Jun 29, 2011 4:50 pm

bothroyd's england cap went to his head and when his big move did not materialise in january his form dipped alarmingly.
With regards to chopra he can accuse messageboards of all sorts of things but no messageboard was to blame for the fact that he was clearly overweight and had fitness problems right up until the end of the season.
I dont agree with slating players and we should all back anybody who wears the shirt whilst they are playing for the club.
The simple answer here for players is to stay away from messageboards, keep off twitter and facebook and concentrate on your football career's.
To blame messageboards for a lack of morale in the changing room is frankly absurd.
Personally if i was being paid 20k a week you could all call me what the hell you wanted as i wouldent give two shits for your opinions.

Re: " SERIOUS QUESTION FOR US ALL AS FANS ? "

Wed Jun 29, 2011 5:22 pm

I agree to some extent but he was on £20k a week and if I saw people running me down I would try my hardest to get them back on my side and work my balls off!! So f@ck him I say!! How did he put so much weight on, from not training hard enough, drinking or eating??

I understand the sentiment of what you are saying but we live in a different world now where ordinary fans can make their opinions heard to a wide range of people on a wide range of subjects. If players choose to look on here or any other forum they must expect to take the rough with the smooth. It's just a fact of everyday life. And I don't think it's any different at ANY other club TBH. :ayatollah:

Re: " SERIOUS QUESTION FOR US ALL AS FANS ? "

Wed Jun 29, 2011 6:14 pm

Good post.

Using offensive language to state that a player is completely useless does not help a player even if it makes the fan feel better.

On the other hand pointing out that a defender should mark the opposition more closely, a goalkeeper should work on catching crosses or that a striker shoud practice heading in corners are legitimate and constructive criticism.

So why don't fans apply comments in the way everyone is expected to do so at work? Give some positive feedback first to reinforce the things a player does well (and even the most useless player gets something right), then explain where the player is going wrong and what the player should do to improve.

If the players read this board they are more likely to take notice of constructive criticism then foul mouthed negative blasts.

Appletastic Taff!!

We do write like a load of wankers on times although i can understand the frustration behind posts. With all those spare hours those players will be reading stuff and it aint fair as sometimes you dont know whats going on behind the scenes when a player plays crap.

We know some of those players weren't there for the love of City - although Love works 2 ways here. If players are made to feel unwanted, then unwanted they will be.
Its not to say that i condone some of the appaling shite we have PAID TO SEE and we should turn a blind eye. But to demonise can be so destructive.

Can you remember how crap onn times Leo Fortune-West was. Me and my mates would be in the old lower grandstand cringing and giggling at his attemps to play football (hands over our faces on times) - but singing his name of our heads to get him motivated.

We cant pick the manager or the team, we can only support whats put in front of us.

my fingers are crossed as always
Blooooooooooooobirds :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
