ARE WE BECOMING A BIG CLUB, FINALLY??

Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:36 am

The way Mowbray was discussing Taylor leaving Boro to come here cos
'Cardiff is an irresistable offer'... the way Conway jumped at the chance
to come here. The way we are aggressively trying to sign Scotlands hottest
prospect in 20 years (Goodwillie). The new stadium, facilities, the way we
seem to be addressing the problems that beset the Academy. Close to 18000
season ticket holders, a 35,000 seater stadium if and when we get promoted.
Billionaire owners who are quietly but determinedly working behind the scenes
to get the business model right.

AND a bright, young, driven, ambitious manager with modern ideas and a fresh
approach to match that of the Club

Historically, teams like Forest, Leeds, Birmingham, West Ham.. all have been
bigger clubs than us, all have more glorious histories, all are big 'names' in
football.

Which of those four clubs is genuinely 'bigger' than Cardiff City right now?

Parachute payments apart, both West Ham and Birmingham would struggle
like f**k to get out of this division this season, both of those clubs have gone
for 'safe' big name managers to get them promoted.

cardiff have gone for a manager that matches the Clubs forward thinking

City have been there or thereabouts for a few seasons now. But forget consolidation
this season. Malky is going for gold

good post taffy :ayatollah: biggest club in wales by far and one of the big dogs in the division with a lot of potential. i don't think clubs like brum have much potential to become a big club, they already are a fairly big club but i don't think they could get 35,000 crowds even though Birmingham is a big city.

Birmingham averaged 25.4k last season in a relegation battle.

Villa fairly local, averaged 37k.

Birmingham's support based on that held up fairly well.

basically what i said earlier on but in more depth :). total believe we are one of biggest clubs out side of the prem. once we are in the prem watch us go! i honistly believe we could be a force in the prem due to the fact of over season marketing and are owners.
plus they are very good business men to go making school boy errors like i.e. not paying a club for a loanee and being childish and not sticking to what it says on a contract. not aiming that at anyone, honist  :ayatollah:

It takes a lot to be a big club.

The changes in the Welsh Cup should help us as it gives a realistic prospect of regular European football - remember the glory days in the late 60's early 70's?

I also believe that signing Welsh players will help us. Not signing anyone because they are Welsh, but if there are 3 similar players available at similar cost then sign the Welsh one. It will help our fans have a greater sense of identity with the club.

For the same reason it helps if the club can develop young talent.
