Free shares in a Nationalised bank anyone..?

I'm not pro-nationalising the banks, not that i'm anti-socialist that much, but I do think nationalising the banks stagnates the economy if not driving it backwards. Not that I agree with the bail out, certainly not the way that was done.

Most people will sell them at the first opportunity and drive the share price down initially, but they could make a nice little profit if they keep them a few years....

Agreed, if people haven't contributed to the pot that bailed the banks out they deserve nothing. But you know what will happen. the taxpayers share would be dilutted to apease the long term bums

What about the thousands of workers who have put a lot of their hard earned cash into shares for their reterment? my wife works for LLoyds on the front desk, and we have struggled to try and secure our retirment only to see the value of the shares plumit, giving free shares will, as the previous post has said dilute the value even more. The government should take a lot of the blame for the value of the LLoyds and other banks share collapsing, as it was they who told LLoyds that they had to take over certain banks which inturn led to the drop in share prices.

It will be very interesting ot see who actually qualifies for these fre shares. Yes it does say tax payer but does that include non residents and the lastest flux of foreign nationals?

So what about the people who were working hard to support their families at the time, who did contribute, and have been laid off in the mean time? Do they deserve nothing? Dole scum shouldn't get anything from the government, but how about the genuinely hard workers who are looking for jobs to support their families and are struggling to find work? I for one would rather that genuine people AND dole scum get something than genuine people get nothing.

It should go to people who have contributed more than 85% of their working lives.

i cant see it happening,a good idea but costs involved would be worth more than the shares,remember this is britain and it would cost 100 billion just to look into the idea
