Bellamy and the budget

Sun Jun 19, 2011 12:27 pm

Craig Bellamy was magnificent during the past few months of last season. No other word for it, in fact there is, he was 'Maradonaesque.'

But if we do bring Bellers in on a big salary - £20-25k p/w, seems the minimum plus probably a large signing on fee and even a transfer fee of several million are we chucking all our eggs into one basket ?

Let's face it MM needs to bring in up to 10 players this summer, does it make sense to spend the bulk of it on one stellar signing ?

maybe signing bellamy would give other potential targets more of a reason to come and play alongside him and lower their wage demands and have a promotion clause in their contract as we are expected to build and mount a new challenge for promotion again.

Personally I'd put clauses in their contracts to make them work hard for their wage and bonuses

Bellamy will only come back if he is reeased from Man City and they pay off part of his contract thereby allowing him to take a lesser wage from us or Man City allow a similar loan to last year but I cannot see that.

He has two years left on his contract that makes it worth about £9Million in wages. They either keep him and pay him or try and pay him off with say haf his remaining contract. Any payment would subsidise his wages with us.

Over two years his payoff could give him a wage of £45,000 per week. We could pay him £15k and he would STILL be getting £60k per week not bad for the end of his career with a dodgy knee.
